We're loving have our students back in these beautiful new spaces.
Dear Wakefield Forest Families,
We have had a positive start to the school year overall. Progress continues to be made on the gym and art rooms. We anticipate opening these spaces in early September.
Unfortunately, I have some sad news to share that one of our kindergarten students experienced the unexpected loss of her father last week. School staff are providing support during the school day. A GoFundMe has been set-up to support the Pili family as the family works through this challenging time.
Thank you.

Woodson will be moving the Cav Carnival inside! The event will start at 5:00pm and take place in the Aux gym. We ask that you park in the front of the building and enter through Door 3. Sports Leadership students will be at Door 3 to hand out Lei’s and direct parents and students down to the Aux Gym where all the games and activities will take place. There will be free activities/games as well as games where carnival tickets need to be purchased. Carnival tickets will be $5 for 10 tickets. Come join the fun and win some prizes!
Due to the weather, we have decided to postpone the running of the field to a later date. However, if parents and students will want to attend the game, students will still be admitted free with a paying adult.
Wakefield Forest will have a three hour early release on the following days:
- September 16
- October 21
- November 18
- February 10
- March 10
- April 21
- May 12
Please complete the survey to help us plan for families that require childcare. Based on information I have to date, the JCC and SACC plan to open early on these dates to accommodate the families already accessing those services for afternoon childcare.
Dear WFES families. As we beginning the new year in our new building we are excited to engage in the process of designing a new mission and vision for Wakefield Forest! To support this work, we are gathering feedback from our students and families. We value your voice and are eager to incorporate your feedback in the vision and mission design process.
We would love for you to complete the following form as a family by September 11th.
2024 Student Rights and Responsibilities
FCPS’ Student Rights and Responsibilities document (SR&R) explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment. Read Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid’s letter to families regarding the SR&R.
Parents/caregivers should talk to their child(ren) about expectations for this school year. Also, please log in to SIS ParentVUE and sign to acknowledge your review of the SR&R, or sign and return the signature sheet to your child’s school by Monday, September 30.
You can submit questions online regarding the SR&R.
We are excited to share the Positive Behavior Approach (PBA) Handbook with you. This handbook outlines the school-wide expectations, routines, and procedures that we have in place to create a positive and supportive learning environment for all students.
The PBA handbook covers the following areas:
-
School-wide Expectations: Our shared values and behaviors that guide our community.
-
Hallway Routines: Procedures for safely and respectfully navigating our hallways.
-
Cafeteria Procedures: Expectations for behavior and mealtimes.
-
Playground Rules: Guidelines for safe and enjoyable play and how to use the equipment safety.
-
Bathroom Protocols: Rules for using the bathroom appropriately.
-
Birthday Celebrations: Guidelines for celebrating birthdays at school.
We encourage you to review this handbook with your child and discuss the importance of following these expectations. By working together, we can create a positive and productive learning environment for everyone.
To access the PBA Family handbook please go to the All Parents/Guardians course in Schoology. For directions on how to access Schoology go to this link.

An email was sent out earlier this week regarding Academic Screening Tests. FCPS uses a variety of academic screening, growth, and diagnostic tests to identify students' academic strengths and needs and to monitor growth in their learning across the school year. These assessments fulfill state requirements for screening and growth measures in addition to providing data to develop student reading plans or student intervention plans, as needed. Additional diagnostic tests are available as a resource for teachers when more information is needed to determine specific areas for support.
- These assessments help teachers know each students' areas of strength and need within the content.
- They also provide data on how each student is growing throughout the year.
The Academic Screening, Growth, and Diagnostic Tests webpage (https://www.fcps.edu/academic-screening-growth-and-diagnostic-tests) provides more information on these tests.
A few reminders for the new school year, to help keep everyone safe:
1. Please be patient and do not pass or go around other cars in the kiss-n-ride line in the morning after dropping off your child. The line moves at a steady pace, so please go with the flow.
2. Families should not stop on Iva Lane to let students out of the car. It is not safe, slows down the movement of the kiss-n-ride line and causes traffic safety issues.
3. It is important to pay attention when pulling out of kiss-n-ride onto Iva Lane after dropping kids off or picking them up at the end of the day. Iva Lane is also a street that is used for general traffic not just WFES Kiss and Ride, so thank you for being extra cautious.
4. WALKERS: students who are walking down Iva Lane after school should only cross at the crosswalk at the bottom of Iva at Elizabeth Lane. Crossing any earlier can be unsafe.
