Principal's Message

Message from Maureen Boland, Interim Principal

Parents and friends of Brookfield,

I am so excited to help Brookfield Elementary School out as we transition to a new principal. As a retired principal, this is one of my favorite things to do. I just spent my week getting to know the school. It seems like an awesome place to learn and grow. During this time of transition, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at mboland@fcps.edu.

Thank you,

Maureen Boland

August 30 - September 2 Labor Day (Holiday)

Friday, August 30 and Monday, Sept. 2, are Labor Day holidays for all FCPS employees and students. Virginia legislation requires that schools opening prior to Labor Day must be closed the Friday immediately preceding Labor Day. We hope everyone takes the long weekend to celebrate a strong start to the school year and enjoy time with family and friends.

See the complete school year calendar.

Open Community Zoom Meeting - Principal Selection Process

We will begin the search for your next principal in the coming weeks.  An important step in this procedure is to inform staff and parents about the principal selection process.  Therefore, all staff and parents are invited to attend a virtual informational meeting on Thursday, September 5th at 5:30 PM.  We also invite you to review this video developed by our Department of Human Resources providing an overview of the principal selection process.

The Brookfield Principal Advisory panel will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024. We invite you to offer your individual, written input regarding the skills, experience, and leadership characteristics needed for Brookfield Elementary School.  You might also address any challenges or issues that a new principal will need to address.  Input is confidential and will not be discussed at the meeting.  We welcome your input now, upon receipt of this letter, and are hopeful that many of you will share your thoughts using the Google form link Principal Input and Advisory Panel Interest by Friday, September 13th at 3:30 PM.  In addition, this form also offers the opportunity to express whether you might be interested in serving as a member of the advisory panel.  Staff and community members selected to be panelists or alternates for this panel will be contacted by the Human Resources department overseeing this process.

✨ Our Commitment to Excellence, Equity, and Opportunity for Each and Every Student

As we begin a new school year, Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid reminds us of the goals of FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic Plan, which guides us in delivering excellence, equity, and opportunity for each and every one of our students. Watch Dr. Reid’s message.

Important! Limited Early Release Mondays

As a reminder, FCPS elementary schools will have limited early release Mondays during the upcoming school year. The goal is to provide elementary teachers with additional time to meet new professional development requirements for the Virginia Literacy Act.

You can help us with planning for the seven early release Mondays. An email was sent to all families on Wednesday, August 14th, and part of that message includes a survey families can take to let us know if they need assistance for childcare on these early release days. Please help us anticipate the number of student who will need to stay at school until regular dismissal time by filling out this survey for each child that attends our school.

We realize there are many details for us to finalize before our first early release Monday in mid-September. Thank you for your patience, we strive to create a positive and successful experience for students, families, and teachers.

Early release Mondays for our school include:

  • September 23
  • October 28
  • November 25
  • February 24
  • March 17
  • April 28
  • May 19

If you have questions about Early Release Mondays, please reach out to Anthony Ramakis at amramakis@fcps.edu.
