Dear Island Creek Families,
What a wonderful second week of the school year with our Crocs! The first two weeks have been filled with excitement and learning as our Croc students have settled into their new classrooms.
We loved welcoming parents/guardians last night to Back to School Night. If you were unable to attend, slides have been uploaded to Schoology.
Thank you for sending your children to school prepared and ready to learn. Their enthusiasm and positive attitudes have made a significant impact on our school community.
We hope everyone has a safe and fun 4-day weekend and we look forward to welcoming our Crocs back to school on Tuesday!
Your Proud Administration Team,
Jen Fallert, Principal
Karen Baxter, Assistant Principal
Denise Cash-Pinckney, Assistant Principal

Friday, August 30, and Monday, September 2, are Labor Day holidays for all FCPS employees and students.
Virginia legislation requires that schools opening prior to Labor Day must be closed the Friday immediately preceding Labor Day.
We hope everyone takes the long weekend to celebrate a strong start to the school year and enjoy time with family and friends. See the complete school year calendar.
All students Kindergarten through 6th grade classes have been learning about, and practicing, school wide and PE specific class routines/expectations. Students have been learning new warm-ups and practicing different exercises. We have enjoyed welcoming our new crocs in PE! All students have been practicing moving safely in the gym and working on modeling cooperative and respectful behaviors. We have been playing PE Jeopardy this year to learn routines and procedures!
Our PE units for the first quarter are Expectations & Cooperative games, Movement & Fitness, and Throwing & Catching. During our movement & fitness unit, students in 4th Grade, 5th Grade, and 6th Grade will learn and participate in Wellness Testing, which include Functional Fitness Challenges and the PACER. We are excited to learn together through various movement activities with all our Crocs this year!
Please ensure your child is ready to learn in P.E. by having the appropriate sneakers or tennis shoes on their classes P.E. days!
Wednesday, September 4; 11:30 AM-12:15 PM

Island Creek Elementary is hosting a parent coffee for our military connected families on Friday, September 6th from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. You will meet Ms. LaMaya Middleton, our Island Creek Elementary Child & Youth Military and Family Life Counselor (MFLC), Ms. Marie Bailey and Ayesha Mahaffey, the School Liaison Officers from the U.S. Army Garrison Fort Belvoir, and Ms. Katie Server, a Fairfax County Public School (FCPS) Military Outreach Liaison. This is an opportunity to hear how they can provide support for your family, ask questions, and meet other military connected parents who have children attending Island Creek Elementary.
The meeting will be held in room 102, the school’s theater room. Please sign in at the front office before going to the meeting and bring your driver’s license as it is required for the sign-in process
Our Island Creek Library welcomes parent & guardian volunteers to join the adventures in our library. Whether you are seeking a peaceful and satisfying job in the quiet library back office (such as covering new books or repairing old books) or prefer a role in the thick of dozens of students looking for books to check out, your skills and efforts are needed to keep our library welcoming, engaging, and full of book joy. Volunteer roles are even available outside of school hours and with tasks that can be completed at home. Complete the volunteer interest form and Ms. Keaney, our librarian, will be in touch.

- Uncover which type of procrastinator your child is, from crisis-maker to dreamer, and get personalized solutions for each procrastination style
- How your child can effectively use a calendar system to combat procrastination and meet deadlines head-on
- Strategies to help your student maintain order with easy-to-implement organizational routines, like the Clean Sweep and Launching Pad
- Communication starters to develop a relationship of trust at the start of the school year and how to nurture it for a smooth academic journey
