Welcome to the Marshall Academy Connector Newsletter

Marshall Academy Families,

As the first week of the 24/25 school year comes to a close, I wanted to reach out and send some updates about the Marshall STEM Academy. We welcomed over 1100 students this week for our academy courses and we are thrilled with the excitement in the air. Students have begun learning about their new courses, connecting with each other, and learning their way from their base school to Marshall Academy. As the students settle in, please let us know if you have any questions. Students can also swing by the Academy office at any point if they need anything. In the office they can meet with me, Greg Luongo, Academy Administrator, Mrs. Niki RosettHaubner, Academy Counselor, Mrs. Shelli Farquharson, Career Experience Specialist, and Mrs. Kandi Walden, Academy Administrative Assistant..

I am excited to welcome back Academy Counselor, Mrs. RosettHaubner.  She is happy to work with all academy students supporting their needs while here - whether it be about an academy schedule, class or working through an issue, she is here to assist all students and works closely with base school counselors.

Mrs. Farquharson, Career Experience Specialist, is here to support all students in helping explore careers, jobs and support students as they look to their future. She will also be working with students in our work-based learning (WBL) projects in many classes throughout the school year. If you’re interested in being a guest career speaker or host a WBL experience, feel free to email Ms. Farquharson at smfarquharso@fcps.edu.

Mrs. Walden, Academy Administrative Assistant, is here to help all students with a focus on attendance. She answers all attendance questions for students and parents, she is who you will report absences to each day. She also handles any questions you may have regarding transportation and parking passes.

One of the biggest challenges this week has been working through transportation to and from Marshall Academy to the base schools. Please remember to check the Academy Shuttle Schedule in the Marshall High School Academy Schoology page, or posted around the academy, for your shuttle times. There is a chance that you may have to leave a class early in order to catch the bus, so please pay attention to the clocks during your classes if you do need to leave early (from Academy class or base school class). Please be sure to be at your bus five minutes before the bus is scheduled to depart.

If you are a student that is driving to Marshall High School from your base school, you must have a Marshall Academy parking pass in order to avoid getting fines. If you have a base school parking pass, your parking is free at Marshall Academy. If you do not have a base school pass the fee is $67 dollars, payable to Marshall High School or on the Marshall Academy MySchoolBucks page. The parking application can be found on the Marshall Academy Website for you to fill out. All parking applications must be delivered to Ms. Walden, and if you have a tag from your base school please bring that in as well. Academy students can park at Door 6, behind the Academy. Please remember to drive carefully in the parking lot as we have people in and out of the building and in the parking lots at all times.

Please let us know if you have any questions as we begin Week 2, we are always here to help and support. We look forward to this year and getting to know everyone in Marshall Academy. Please visit us on Back to School Night on Tuesday, September 10th.   We will send out the exact Back to School night schedule closer to the date after we finalize it.

Regards,

Greg Luongo

Marshall Academy Administrator
