Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope this message finds you well. I am thrilled to share that our first week of school has been a tremendous success! It has been a joy to see our hallways filled with the energy and enthusiasm of our students as they embark on a new year of learning and growth.
Our teachers and staff have worked tirelessly to create a welcoming and supportive environment, and it has been wonderful to see our students quickly settling into their routines. Classrooms are buzzing with engaging activities, and our students are already showing a strong commitment to learning..
We are also excited about the positive interactions we’ve seen among students, whether they’re making new friends or reconnecting with old ones. Our focus on fostering a strong sense of community and belonging is clearly taking root, and we look forward to building on this foundation throughout the year.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Together, we are making this school year one filled with possibilities and successes for all our students. We’re looking forward to an incredible year ahead!
Linda Peace

Kiss & Ride
By Monday, September 9th, all Kiss and Ride families should have their car number (green tag) displayed on their passenger side window or front dash when parked in the pickup line. If you do not have a number/green tag, please sign up on the link below so that one can be made for you. This will allow us to move through the line with ease. Please make sure that you help your child/children to know their number and direct them to be looking for their car to a complete stop as you pull up to the covered pick up area where students wait. Thank you for moving forward as much as you can and not stopping or calling out to students so that traffic can move forward and we can keep the kids coming out to cars safely. Many thanks!
Please sign up for Kiss & Ride at this link: Kiss & Ride Contract 2024-2025 You will need to keep the tag and use it every year that your student attends Keene Mill.
Everything You Can Do Through SIS ParentVUE
Want to get ahead of the back-to-school forms and checklists? Make sure you have a SIS ParentVUE account for your family and log in to find forms and updates.
If you do not have a SIS ParentVUE account, contact your child's school for an activation code and follow the directions on the SIS ParentVUE Account webpage.
Update Contact Information
Be among the first to know about weather closings, bus delays, and other critical communications from your school and FCPS by providing your cell phone number and email in SIS ParentVUE. To update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE, click the “Online Packets” tab in the upper right of the screen, then click the “Online Verification/Update” icon.
Parents/caregivers who do not have a SIS ParentVUE account should print and complete the Emergency Care Information Form needed for updates and submit it to their child’s school.
Complete Permission Forms
Families can now easily grant permission for their children to access a variety of school resources through the Parent Digital Consent system. This online tool can be accessed using your SIS ParentVUE account. Parents can easily opt their child in or out of a variety of resources including online educational tools, school counseling services, and tutoring services. They can also change how student information is managed.
Visit the Parent Digital Consent webpage to access the system. Watch this video to see how to use the tool.
Submit Absences
Parents can submit daylong absences through SIS ParentVUE. Log in to the platform and click “Report Absence.” Note: Partial day absences and changes of transportation should still be reported directly to your school’s front office.
Classroom Monitors Needed
Keene Mill is actively seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as classroom monitors for the 2024-2025 school year. Your role will be crucial in providing additional support to our students and staff.
If you are interested in this job opportunity, please get in touch with Maggie Gawen, Assistant Principal, at magawen@fcps.edu for more information.
The duties of a classroom monitor are: supervise students throughout the school day, including, but not limited to, classrooms, lunch, recess, and specials. Classroom Monitors assist with managing behavior, operating technology, and performing some administrative and non-instructional duties. The individual can have a combination of experiences equivalent to graduation from high school. The person must be comfortable managing groups of students.
Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow!
The beginning of the school year is the best time to develop strong attendance habits! Students who attend school regularly are more likely to perform well in reading and math, develop strong social and emotional skills, and graduate from high school on time. Help prepare your child for future success. Watch this video with tips from Fairfax Pyramid principals and visit FCPS’ Attendance webpage for tips and strategies.
