Dear Wildcats,
We have a vibrant community here at Woodburn and you can feel the spirit of community throughout the building during this first week. Students have been enthusiastically reuniting with their classmates, friends and teachers, a heartwarming reminder of the impact each Wildcat is making. You would be quite pleased with how well our Wildcats have smoothly transitioned to the new year, with smiles, questions and energy abound.
We want to thank all of the families for making the start of the school year so smooth. Your action, willingness to support and encouragement have served as a great springboard for our year. As we head into Week Two, please know how grateful we are for your collaborative approach to the kids' learning and engagement.
Together We Grow,
Kelley and Matt

Each Woodburn Elementary family received this link last week regarding our upcoming 3-hour early release days. Please remember to complete one form for each child. While we anticipate that most students will go home after school, we understand that some families may need additional support with childcare on these days. Completing this form will allow us to coordinate care on these days
The scheduled Early Release Mondays are:
- September 16
- October 21
- November 18
- February 10
- March 10
- April 21
- May 12
No computer, no problem! Students enjoyed playing a game of BINGO during their first technology lesson!
Please check with your healthcare provider as soon as possible to make sure your child is up-to-date on the immunizations required by the state of Virginia. Starting Monday, September 30, students who have not provided proof of immunization will not be allowed to attend school.
You can check your child’s immunization compliance and submit their immunization record in SIS ParentVUE. Records may also be delivered to a school’s front office.
If your child needs a vaccine, please make an appointment with your healthcare provider, visit the Fairfax County Health Department website for a list of child immunization clinics, or access other local services. If needed, families may also provide other immunization documentation including a healthcare provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption or a notarized Religious Exemption Form.
Find more information on immunizations on the FCPS website.

School Communication
Woodburn works hard to maintain ongoing communication with families. Information is shared in the following ways:
- Talking Points (families are encouraged to download the Talking Points app)
- Weekly Thursday Folders
- Weekly newsletters from administration (families must enroll in News You Choose)
- eNotify emails and text messages (families automatically enrolled)
- Staff also communicate via phone and email
Attendance Reporting
Daily attendance is critical to student success and achievement. Families have a huge influence on students when it comes to attendance. We understand that students may be absent and ask that you notify the school of your child’s absence in one of the following ways:
- Report the absence in ParentVue
- Call the school attendance line at 703-641-8282
- Email WoodburnElem.Attendance@fcps.edu sharing your child’s name and reason for absence
Families will be contacted if a student absence is not reported. This communication will be delivered in the form of an automated phone call after 10:30 each day.
Cafeteria and Meal Information
- You may place money, cash or check, in your student’s account at our Open House. This money can be used to purchase breakfast ($1.75) and lunch ($3.25). If paying by check, please make your check payable to Woodburn Food Service. You may also prepay online at www.MySchoolBucks.com using a credit card.
Families can apply for Free and Reduced Lunch. For faster processing, parents can submit an application electronically at www.myschoolapps.com. If an email address is provided, notification will be e-mailed regarding approval and no paper copy will be mailed.
FCPS has tools to help parents know more about their child’s activity on any FCPS device. These tools are provided at no cost to families by Lightspeed, the school division’s internet content filtering service.
Parents may sign up for a weekly Parent Report, which will provide a list of the top sites their child visited. The report also offers parents the ability to sign up for free access to the Internet Use Parent Portal. Through the portal, parents may pause their child’s access to the internet on their FCPS device during non-school hours.
