It was a fabulous first week of school here at Fort Hunt! Everywhere in the building, you could hear the buzz of busy students creating and talking together. They are already making new friends, learning important routines and procedures, and showing what they know.

Early Release Monday--Complete the Survey
Our first 3-hour early release Monday will be on Monday, September 16. We need to hear from ALL of our Fort Hunt families about childcare plans for September 16 and October 21. All students will be dismissed at 12:40pm.
Complete this survey: https://forms.gle/Y3thTFCvbzq1QKrx8
We know that plans for your family might change. Give the best answers you can for each child in your family enrolled at Fort Hunt. Thank you!
Kiss & Ride Updates
Thank you to everyone who has helped to make Kiss & Ride a success. As expected, the first day was challenging. But as the week continued, it moved more efficiently. As a reminder, it's the safest method for everyone at Fort Hunt. This helps keeps our streets clear so that buses can pass and eliminates the need to cross the street.
Can't I just park at the curb on Linton and drop/pick up my child there?
NO. This is unsafe and blocks the flow of traffic. Our Kiss & Ride lane is the fastest and safest way to drop off/pick up your child.
What about parking on the corners of Toll Bridge? Can I do that? Can I drop off my child there?
NO. Parking on the corners of Toll Bridge blocks traffic in and out of Toll Bridge. We've also seen students crossing there which is very unsafe. Again, use Kiss & Ride for arrival & dismissal.
What can parents do to make Kiss & Ride safe for everyone?
Follow the procedures and directions from staff. Respect the cones. Be kind to staff and one another. Stay calm. Expect that this new procedure will be busy and might not go as smoothly as you like. Allow for extra time to get to your next destination.
Please study the map below. Thank you for sharing this information with family members and care providers that use Kiss & Ride.

No Dogs on Campus
While it's nice to take your dog for a walk to and from school, they are NOT allowed on campus at anytime. This includes after dismissal. No pets are allowed on FCPS school grounds, and this is clearly marked at the driveway entrance. It is a safety issue. We have students who have allergies and fear of animals. Please keep your pets at home. Thank you.

Labor Day Holiday
Friday, August 30, and Monday, September 2, are Labor Day holidays for all FCPS employees and students. Virginia legislation requires that schools opening prior to Labor Day must be closed the Friday immediately preceding Labor Day. We hope everyone takes the long weekend to celebrate a strong start to the school year and enjoy time with family and friends. See the complete school year calendar here.

Your Partners in Education
We are honored to work with your family this year and will work everyday to ensure a safe and positive learning environment for your child. We can't do it alone. Please contact us when there is a question or concern, especially related to bullying. As a parent, you will often hear about something before staff might. Thank you for all your support.
