Leadership Ledger: A Wonderful Start to the School Year

Westlawn Families:

From the bottom of our hearts, we express heartfelt gratitude for the incredible start to our new school year. The energy, enthusiasm, and positivity that filled our hallways and classrooms during the first week have been truly inspiring.

The dedication of our teachers, staff, and students has created a warm and welcoming environment that fosters learning and growth. I am particularly impressed by the way our students have adapted to their new routines and the eagerness with which they have embraced the challenges and opportunities ahead.

We extend a special thank you to our wonderful community for your continued support. Your commitment to your students' success is admirable, and we are honored to serve our children and families.

As we move forward, I am excited to witness the incredible accomplishments that our students will achieve. Together, we will create a year filled with learning, growth, and unforgettable experiences.

Thank you for being a part of the Westlawn School community.

Sincerely,

Christoph Hill and Stephanie Carpenter, Westlawn Principals

Photo of the Week: two new students smile on their first day of school

We were delighted to welcome students to campus on Monday morning, and especially tickled to welcome our newest Eagles to Westlawn! You never know when we might feature you on social media, our website, or in the newsletter!

Important Contacts at Westlawn

Please note that Ms. Cortez is currently on leave. When she returns, we will provide the phone number that will be then assigned to her office.

Sharing Absences, Late Arrivals, and Early Dismissals

There are three ways to share absences with the Westlawn team:

While we recommend sharing your child’s full-day absence with your child’s teacher using TalkingPoints, we also ask that you inform our office staff using one of the three methods above so that our daily attendance is accurate. Additionally, please ensure that you share early dismissal information with our office staff because TalkingPoints is not monitored continually. We want to ensure that your child is ready to go when you need to pick them up early, and we can only do that if the main office has that information.

Wednesday Folders are Now Thursday Folders

This change means that you will receive the Feather Report and the fliers on the same day. If you have time on Thursday mornings and would like to volunteer in your child’s classroom to stuff Thursday folders, please send your child’s teacher a TalkingPoints message to collaborate. The first Thursday folder will be sent home next Thursday, August 29.

School Meal Menus are Now on LINQ Connect

School meal menus recently changed from being hosted on Nutrislice to being hosted on LINQ Connect. There is no change to how families can pay for extras, like cookies. Also, this has no impact on the free breakfasts and lunches available to all Westlawn students this year. View the LINQ Connect school meal menus for Westlawn.

📵 Phones Down, Engagement Up: FCPS Cell Phone Policy Keeping cell phones off during the school day helps students focus and learn. It also boosts positive social behavior. Review FCPS’ cell phone expectations by grade level with your child and help keep our classrooms free of distractions! If you need to reach your child during the school day, please call our main office at 703-241-5100.
