A Message from Principal Ritter
Dear Kings Glen Families,
It has been an amazing beginning of the 2024-2025 school year! We are grateful for your support and enthusiasm. It has been wonderful to see our students return to school filled with such excitement and eagerness to learn. Their positive energy has filled our classrooms, hallways, and hearts!
It was a pleasure connecting with many families at our Back To School Night held on Thursday evening. Your involvement in your child’s education is invaluable. Whether it’s helping with homework, volunteering, or simply providing encouragement, your efforts make a difference.
As we move forward, we encourage you to stay connected with your child’s teacher and the school community. We believe that strong partnerships between home and school are essential for student success. We are looking forward to a fantastic year ahead!

Calendar Reminder: Labor Day
Friday, August 30, and Monday, September 2, are Labor Day holidays for all FCPS employees and students. Virginia legislation requires that schools opening prior to Labor Day must be closed the Friday immediately preceding Labor Day. We hope everyone takes the long weekend to celebrate a strong start to the school year and enjoy time with family and friends. See the complete school year calendar.
SURVEY RESPONSE NEEDED:
Three-Hour Early Release Mondays
Many thanks to the families who have already responded to the Early Release Mondays Childcare survey. A survey was sent to all families via eNotify and TalkingPoints with a school-specific link regarding childcare needs. We need 100% response from each of our families NO LATER THAN THURSDAY, AUGUST 29 so that we can plan accordingly.
This school year FCPS elementary schools will have seven early release Mondays. The goal of these days is to provide elementary teachers with additional time to meet new professional development requirements for the Virginia Literacy Act (27 hours of training) and other planning requirements. Learn more about the plan here.
Kings Glen will have a 3-hour early release on the following days (dismissing at 12:20 p.m.): September 16, October 21, November 18, February 10, March 10, April 21 and May 12.
Attendance Matters
Please take a moment to review the FCPS calendar and plan accordingly. Your child's attendance is vital for their academic progress.
While we understand the importance of family vacations, we kindly request that you plan your trips around our school schedule. Thank you for your cooperation!
Any student absent for 18 or more days will be considered chronically absent. Read more about FCPS Attendance expectations here.

Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights
Fairfax County Public Schools wants all parents and caregivers to understand its policies regarding surveys, records, curriculum, privacy, and related rights.
In its Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights and Opt-Out Forms (Annual Notice), FCPS provides explanations of the rights listed above as well as forms that may be used to exercise opt-out choices. Two versions of the Annual Notice are available: a grades K-8 version and a grades 9-12 version. Parents/caregivers with children at different grade levels should read each applicable version of the Annual Notice, because the notices and opt-out rights vary depending on the student’s grade level.
Get more information and view the 2024-25 Opt-Out Booklets.
