Summer has flown by, and we are thrilled to welcome our students back this week! Our dedicated staff has worked tirelessly to make the school look amazing, and our custodial team ensured that everything was in perfect order. A big shout-out to everyone—from our office staff and classroom teachers to our specials team and custodians—who contributed to preparing for the new school year. Your hard work truly helps us shine!
Our Back to School Event last Thursday was a great success, with about 50% of our families in attendance. We sincerely appreciate you taking the time to visit and meet your child’s classroom team. Additionally, thank you to everyone who has already returned the necessary ‘return to school forms’. If you haven’t completed these forms yet, please do so as soon as possible. You’ll find online links later in this newsletter to assist with the process.
Stay tuned for upcoming information in our future newsletters about PTA events. We’re planning early evening events in September and/or October designed to benefit parents, students, and families.
Thank you for your support in making this a fantastic start to the school year by dropping off extra items, materials, and any remaining forms. Together, we shine!

Labor Day Holiday
Friday, August 30, and Monday, September 2, are Labor Day holidays for all FCPS employees and students. Virginia legislation requires that schools opening prior to Labor Day must be closed the Friday immediately preceding Labor Day. We hope everyone takes the long weekend to celebrate a strong start to the school year and enjoy time with family and friends. See the complete school year calendar.
Together We Shine in 2024-2025!
The Key Center School theme for the coming school year is Together We Shine! As a community building activity, the staff tie dyed shirts prior to the students’ return. We look forward to having many occasions to wear them throughout this exciting school year! #FirstDayFairfax
IMPORTANT: Required Annual Forms
The response rate on required yearly forms has been very low as we start the 2024-2025 school year. Many families have completed some, but not all, of the required forms. We need your help! You will be receiving an eNotify message asking that you complete important required forms for your student. You can access the forms using this link . If you would like to confirm that all of your student forms have been completed, please contact us to inquire by calling (703) 313-4000 or emailing KeyCtr.Admin@fcps.edu.
Student Immunizations Reminder
Please check with your healthcare provider as soon as possible to make sure your child is up-to-date on the immunizations required by the state of Virginia. Starting Monday, September 30, students who have not provided proof of immunization will not be allowed to attend school.
You can check your child’s immunization compliance and submit their immunization record in SIS ParentVUE. Records may also be delivered to a school’s front office.
If your child needs a vaccine, please make an appointment with your healthcare provider, visit the Fairfax County Health Department website for a list of child immunization clinics, or access other local services. If needed, families may also provide other immunization documentation including a healthcare provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption or a notarized Religious Exemption Form.
Find more information on immunizations on the FCPS website.
