Dear Haycock Families,
We had a fantastic first week of school! It felt wonderful to welcome everyone back on Monday and our first week went very smoothly.
Thank you to all that families that were able to attend Back to School Night on Thursday evening. If you were unable to attend, your teacher will be sending you the information from that evening. All teachers will offer a parent conference during the first quarter which gives you another opportunity to talk with your child's teacher and partner with them for a great school year.
Consider joining us for the Connections and Conversations Coffee on Friday, September 13 at 9:30 a.m. in the library. Our reading specialists will be providing information and answering questions about the new language arts basal materials. We hope to see you there.
Please see the letter from our crossing guard, Ms. Beeda Lee-Pawlak about crossing safely at the Westmoreland and Haycock Road intersection.
We wish all of you a happy Labor Day. Please note that there is no school on Friday, August 30 and Monday, September 2 in honor of the Labor Day holiday.
With appreciation for your partnership,
Liz Beaty, Principal embeaty@fcps.edu
Heather Boyd, AP HABoyd@fcps.edu
Krystal Styles, AP krstyles@fcps.edu

Labor Day
Friday, August 30, and Monday, September 2, are Labor Day holidays for all FCPS employees and students. Virginia legislation requires that schools opening prior to Labor Day must be closed the Friday immediately preceding Labor Day. We hope everyone takes the long weekend to celebrate a strong start to the school year and enjoy time with family and friends.
Early Release Monday Form- Action Item
If you have not done so already, please take a minute and complete the Early Release Monday form. If you have multiple students at Haycock, you will need to complete the short form for each of them. This important data is being collected by FCPS and will assist us with planning for the early release Mondays. We need 100% response rate, so please complete the form today.
Thank you to all the families that have already completed this form for us.❤️
Students who remain at school on those early release Mondays will be supervised by instructional assistants, school staff not involved in the required training, central office staff, and volunteers. Your child will not be working with their teacher due to the state mandated training they must complete. This time on the early release Mondays will be allocated for students to complete homework, STMath, Lexia, MyOn, independent reading, and other similar tasks.
Celebrate McLean- 2024
Please save the date for August 29th 2024 for Celebrate McLean. It will run from 4pm-6:30pm, prior to our football home opener vs Meridian. We will have games, food, DJ and tables from our clubs and sports. We look forward to another amazing day!
Kiss and Ride Drop Off and Pick Up Safety Reminders
If you are bringing your child to school by car, you should come through the Kiss and Ride line which is on the Westmoreland side of Haycock.
Do not park and walk your child from Westmoreland Street or from the parking lot area. This puts our students in unsafe situations. Cars should not park in the lot, rather, remain in your car and drop your student off.
Follow the directions of the staff members stationed in the Kiss and Ride area, traveling in a one way direction and abiding by the signs located in that area. We want all students to be safe and to begin and end their day in a pleasant way. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Transportation/Bus Updates
Thank you for your patience as we all get used to new routines this school year. We appreciate our families following Kiss and Ride procedures and being patient while waiting for your children’s buses.
If your student’s bus is delayed, you may access the Bus Delay Notification Systemor use the Here Comes the Bus mobile app to receive the delayed bus report. Email messages will be sent to announce significant bus delays. Please contact the Transportation Office at 703-249-7100 with any additional questions. For concerns after 5:30 p.m., contact Safety and Security at 571-423-2000.
Update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE to make sure you receive email messages about bus delays.
