The Early Release Mondays planned throughout the school year for elementary schools are essential to allow educators time for planning and professional development. Students will be dismissed 3 hours early seven times throughout the school year and are encouraged to return home via their normal route. However, we understand there may be a childcare hardship because of the early release Mondays for many of our families. To resolve these concerns, student supervision will be available for families who need it.
The following dates are planned for Early Release Mondays throughout the school year:
- September 23
- October 28
- November 25
- February 24
- March 17
- April 28
- May 19
To help plan for our school’s childcare needs during Early Release Mondays, please complete this form for each of your children enrolled at Westbriar Elementary: Early Release Monday Childcare Form.
The form covers the first two early release Mondays, scheduled for September 23, 2024 and October 28, 2024. If you have multiple children, you will need to submit multiple forms. Staff will confirm the after school supervision plan for each student.
Please complete the short survey below to help us match your skills and interests with our upcoming events or areas of need. We are excited to offer the 2-Hour Power Volunteer Program, where you can contribute just two hours of your time to support our school community: 2-Hour Power Volunteer Survey.
STUDENT HOURS:
Student Hours are 9:20 AM to 4:05 PM therefore, we ask that students do not arrive at WES prior to 8:55 AM. Students who arrive prior to 9:05 AM will be sent to the cafeteria to wait until dismissed to their classrooms. We prefer students not arrive prior to 9:05 AM as this does require additional supervision support. Safety Patrols who have a morning duty at the front of the building are asked not to arrive prior to 8:50 AM.
STUDENT DISMISSAL: Parents are asked not to arrive for walkers prior to 4:00 PM. Students are still participating in learning and outdoor recess. You must report to the office if you need to access your child prior to dismissal at 4:05 PM.
DOGS ON SCHOOL PROPERTY (leashed and non-leashed): Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) prohibits animals on school property, including playgrounds, fields, and school buildings, to protect the health and safety of students, employees, and visitors. Parents may have animals in their vehicles when coming through KISS & RIDE. We will be enforcing this policy beginning next week.

FCPS has tools to help parents know more about their child’s activity on any FCPS device. These tools are provided at no cost to families by Lightspeed, the school division’s internet content filtering service.
Parents may sign up for a weekly Parent Report, which will provide a list of the top sites their child visited. The report also offers parents the ability to sign up for free access to the Internet Use Parent Portal. Through the portal, parents may pause their child’s access to the internet on their FCPS device during non-school hours.

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) offers several opt-out options for parents and guardians to make informed decisions regarding their child's participation in specific programs and activities. These options include the ability to opt out of activities such as the Family Life Education (FLE) program, allowing parents to choose alternative educational content for their child. Additionally, FCPS provides opt-out choices for certain surveys, the release of directory information, and the use of students' photos, videos, or work for non-commercial purposes. These options ensure that parents can tailor their child's educational experience to align with their family's values and preferences. Detailed information about these opt-out options is available on the FCPS website, where parents can access the necessary forms and guidelines.
