Orange Hunt News We HOOT

sidewalk

Check out what is happening at Orange Hunt: We had a great first two days here at Orange Hunt!  Thank you to the families that "Chalked the Walk" for us!  It was a great way to start us off on the right foot!

Be Prepared for a Successful School Day

Please send your children to school prepared to learn!  Students should arrive with everything they will need for their school day.  Items to remember may include:

  • Lunchbox if they pack lunch
  • Water bottle
  • Instrument if they are in band/strings
  • Weather appropriate clothing
  • Appropriate shoes for physical education class

Dropping forgotten items off at school to be delivered to the classroom disrupts the learning environment.

FCPS Cell Phone Policy

📵 Phones Down, Engagement Up: FCPS Cell Phone Policy Keeping cell phones off during the school day helps students focus and learn. It also boosts positive social behavior. Review FCPS’ cell phone expectations by grade level with your child and help keep our classrooms free of distractions! If you need to reach your child during the school day, please call our 703-913-6800.

Grades K-6

  • Phones must be silenced and in backpacks for the duration of the school day. Cell phones may be used on campus before and after school only.
  • Smart watches that serve a dual purpose may be worn, but the phone features (texting, Internet viewing, and calls) are to be off when phone use is prohibited.
  • Students are prohibited from using phones, tablets, and other mobile devices in restrooms and locker rooms, unless there is a medical necessity or emergency.
  • With the approval of the principal or their designee, teachers may allow usage of cell phones for instructional activities where they are the most appropriate tool; however, one-to-one FCPS devices should meet most needs.

Lost and Found

Please label your child's backpacks, lunchboxes, and coats/jackets. Items with names that are turned into the Lost and Found will be returned to the student's classroom!

The Lost and Found may be checked on school days between 9 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Please check in at the main office and our staff will be happy to escort you to the Lost and Found. Students may check at any time during the school day with permission from their teacher.

Lost and Found items will be donated to a local charity at the end of each grading quarter.

Orange Hunt ES is looking for several special people to serve our school community.  We have two opportunities available.  We need cafeteria monitors and classroom monitors

Orange Hunt ES is looking for several  people to serve as a classroom monitors for the 2024-2025 school year!  Pay is $16.85/hour.  We have opportunities to have monitors everyday and also the ability to work out a flexible schedule. The bottom line is WE NEED YOU! Monitors will directly support classrooms by providing teachers with additional planning time. Teachers will provide directions/assignments for monitors and students to complete. This is a wonderful opportunity to support one school throughout the year, and monitors will experience all classroom environments (general education and special education).

We are also looking for Dining Assistants for the 2024-2025 school year.  We know this is a big job and are looking to create a team to help our students in the cafeteria.  This is a paid position.  The more people we can get the more flexibility we have when creating the schedule.

Lunches run from 10:15pm - 2:00pm Monday thru Friday.  Please contact Ann Prentice at aiprentice@fcps.edu  if you are interested.

Prepare for meals at School

Parents/caregivers need to provide their students with money to purchase meals at school, send them with a packed lunch, or apply (and be approved) for free and reduced-price meals benefits. School breakfast for students costs $1.75. Lunch is $3.25 for elementary students and $3.50 for middle, secondary, and high school students.

The best way to purchase meals and additional food items is to use MySchoolBucks. If you have not already, set up your student’s MySchoolBucks account today.

MySchoolBucks accounts can be set up to add money to the account automatically as needed, and families with multiple children can use the same MySchoolBucks account.

ACTION NEEDED- Must Submit for this school year! No free/reduced lunches without application this school year! Please see below!

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS – We are excited to kick off our football season with our first home game on August 29th as the Spartans take on the Hayfield Hawks @ 7pm.

The theme for this FIRST home game is a WHITE OUT.

All elementary and middle school students need to be accompanied & supervised by an adult while at the game. High school students who get dropped off must plan to have their rides waiting for them at the conclusion of the game.

If you or your student plans to come, please take the time to discuss the relevant information below:

  • No backpacks or other bags will be allowed in the stadium.
  • No outside food or drinks are allowed. The concession stand will be open.
  • The purpose for students who attend our varsity football games is to watch the game, cheerleaders, band, and dance team.
  • We cheer for our team and not against our opponent. All cheers should be positive.
  • The gates to the stadium will open at 6:15pm.
  • All students need to leave immediately following the game.
  • Elementary & middle school students must always be supervised by an adult.
  • If you leave the game, you will not be able to re-enter the stadium.
  • Whistles, air horns and similar noisemakers are prohibited.

Our goal is to create a positive community event.  Any behaviors that take away from this goal may result in removal from the game.  LET’S GO SPARTANS!
