Principal's Message:

Hi Bull Run families!

It was a successful first day of school today!  Don't be surprised if the students come home tired from a long day of learning procedures and meeting new friends!  Please ensure your children get some good sleep tonight.

Please review with your children how they get home every day (Kiss and Ride or Bus).  We have placed colored tape on all K-2 students' backpacks, with their bus or Kiss and Ride number written on it.  We ask that you do not remove the tape.  It is to help teachers and staff make sure all students get home safely and on the correct bus.

*Families- we request that beginning tomorrow, Tuesday 8/20, all students will need to enter the building on their own.  We request this for the safety of everyone, and for our students to adjust to the school arrival routine*  Kindergarten students will have staff ready to support getting them to their class safely.

Below you will find some important information regarding transportation and other back to school topics.

Have a great night!

-Mr. Marotta

Kiss and Ride path

Kiss & Ride at Bull Run Elementary

Please be mindful when entering Bull Run ES during arrival and dismissal.

To ensure all our families safety, if traveling toward the battlefield on Lee HWY, continue past Bull Run ES and complete a u-turn at the next available left-turn. All cars should enter Bull Run ES by turning right at the light (Pleasant Valley and Lee HWY) while traveling towards Centreville on Lee HWY.

To keep traffic patterns flowing smoothly when driving into the school for Kiss & Ride, cars should stay in the right lane as the left lane is reserved for buses entering Bull Run ES.

This will ensure our families are entering and exiting Bull Run safely.

*remember that we encourage all Bull Run students to use FCPS transportation (our beautiful yellow Buses)

2024-25 DIGITAL CONSENT

Fairfax County Public Schools uses a variety of resources to support student learning. In cases where FCPS contracts with a vendor to host student information, FCPS requires that the vendor adhere to the security and privacy requirements specified in a confidentiality agreement included in their contracts. FCPS does not have contracts with every instructional tool vendor.  Many valuable instructional tools are governed by Terms of Service (TOS) and include both free and paid tools. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year require parental consent. Please complete the online Digital Consent for each student here at Bull Run ES.

Each digital resource used in FCPS has had an instructional and technical review. Information about the educational technology tools approved for use within FCPS can be found in the Digital Ecosystem Library

Parents can find more information about FCPS-approved digital resources on the Digital Resources in FCPS webpage.

School Safety

Safety Drills During the School Year

Keeping students and staff safe is a priority for FCPS. Each school has an emergency preparedness plan to respond to incidents such as fires and tornadoes. Schools are required by state law to practice emergency drills, including lockdown drills, each year. Schools are also required to notify parents and guardians at least 24 hours before a school conducts a lockdown drill. However, schools are not required to give the specific date and time of the drill in advance.

The first fire drill and lockdown drill of the school year must take place within the first 20 days of school. Preschool and kindergarten students are exempt from practicing the first lockdown drill.

Your child may come home and talk about their experience during the drill. We encourage you to talk with your child about the importance of being prepared for emergencies. Please review these frequently asked questions to support your students before and after school lockdown drills.

School Meals Information

Preparing for and Paying for Meals at School

Parents/caregivers need to provide their students with money to purchase meals at school, send them with a packed lunch, or apply (and be approved) for free and reduced-price meals benefits. School breakfast for students costs $1.75. Lunch is $3.25 for elementary students and $3.50 for middle, secondary, and high school students.

The best way to purchase meals and additional food items is to use MySchoolBucks. If you have not already, set up your student’s MySchoolBucks account today.

MySchoolBucks accounts can be set up to add money to the account automatically as needed, and families with multiple children can use the same MySchoolBucks account.

Visit FCPS’ Food and Nutrition webpage for more information.

Apply for Free and Reduced-Priced Meals:

The application for free and reduced-priced meals is now available for the 2024-25 school year. Students who were approved for free and reduced-price lunch last year are eligible for the first 30 days of school this year (or until a new application is processed). Families should re-apply as soon as possible, so eligible students continue to receive meals at no cost.

We provide substitutes with a flexible work schedule that a substitute teacher or substitute instructional assistant can tailor to their needs. This includes choosing the grade level(s) and subjects a substitute would like to teach, schools they would like to work at, and more!
