A Note from the Principal
Dear Daniels Run Families,
It was so much fun welcoming back over 800 students at Daniels Run this week. Our first full week of school has been a whirlwind of energy and excitement. Teachers and students have been getting to know each other, building their classroom communities, and diving into our new curriculum.
One of our main focuses this week has been fostering strong classroom communities. Teachers have been engaging students in various activities that not only help them get to know each other but also set the tone for a collaborative and supportive learning environment. It’s heartwarming to see students forming new friendships and rekindling old ones.
We have an exciting lineup of events planned for this school year, and I encourage all families to participate and get involved. Here are a few key dates to mark on your calendars:
-
Back-to-School Night: Join us to meet your child's teacher, see their classroom, and learn about the exciting plans for the year on September 5th from 5:00-6:30 pm.
-
PTA Family Picnic: A wonderful opportunity for families to come together, enjoy some good food, and build our community spirit. Please join us right after Back-to School Night on September 5th from 5:00-7:00 pm.
-
First PTA Meeting: I hope to see many of you at our virtual PTA meeting on Tuesday night at 7:00 pm on August 27th. Your participation and support are vital to our school's success.
-
Field Day: A fun-filled day of outdoor activities that our students always look forward to on October 11th.
We believe that communication between home and school is essential. Please make sure to check our school website and newsletters regularly for updates and information. If you haven’t already, follow us on social media to stay connected with the latest news and events.
I am looking forward to a fantastic school year filled with learning, growth, and memorable experiences. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need assistance.
Warm regards,
Susan Mullen

FCPS has tools to help parents know more about their child’s activity on any FCPS device. These tools are provided at no cost to families by Lightspeed, the school division’s internet content filtering service.
Parents may sign up for a weekly Parent Report, which will provide a list of the top sites your child visited. Kiss and Ride Information
Welcome to the new school year! This is to inform you of our Kiss and Ride procedures for the end of the day.
1) During the first week of school we will be giving out a Kiss and Ride card.
2) Please place the card on the passenger side dashboard of your vehicle with your child's name and grade level.
3) All students will wait in the cafeteria to be called to the Kiss and Ride loop of cars as parents arrive. Students will be called starting at 3:45pm when the dismissal bell rings.
Beginning September 3rd if you do not have the card on your dashboard you will be asked to park and come in to the office to pick up your child. Please be sure to get as many Kiss and Ride cards as you need to ensure that all your vehicles can display the card.
- As a reminder students should only be entering and exiting cars from the passenger side of the vehicle. Also students will be dismissed to a vehicle ONLY. Please do not walk up to the cafeteria exit door to pick up your child.
- We thank you in advance for your flexibility and help with ensuring the safety of all the children.
- No pets are allowed on school grounds.
Opt-Out Annual Notice
Fairfax County Public Schools wants all parents and caregivers to understand its policies regarding surveys, records, curriculum, privacy, and related rights.
In its Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights and Opt-Out Forms (Annual Notice), FCPS provides explanations of the rights listed above as well as forms that may be used to exercise opt-out choices. Two versions of the Annual Notice are available: a grades K-8 version and a grades 9-12 version. Parents/caregivers with children at different grade levels should read each applicable version of the Annual Notice, because the notices and opt-out rights vary depending on the student’s grade level.
Get more information and view the 2024-25 Opt-Out Booklets.
Update Immunizations and Records
Please check with your healthcare provider as soon as possible to make sure your child is up-to-date on the immunizations required by the state of Virginia. Starting Monday, September 30, students who have not provided proof of immunization will not be allowed to attend school.
You can check your child’s immunization compliance and submit their immunization record in SIS ParentVUE. Records may also be delivered to a school’s front office.
If your child needs a vaccine, please make an appointment with your healthcare provider, visit the Fairfax County Health Department website for a list of child immunization clinics, or access other local services. If needed, families may also provide other immunization documentation including a healthcare provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption or a notarized Religious Exemption Form.
Find more information on immunizations on the FCPS website.
