šŸ¦ Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year, Lion Families!

I am writing to express my sincere gratitude to the entire London Towne Elementary School community for making the first week of school such a resounding success. Your support and the enthusiasm of our students have created a positive and inspiring learning environment in and around the Towne.Ā  THANK YOU!!

I would also like to recognize our dedicated staff for their tireless efforts to ensure a smooth and successful start to the school year. Their commitment to providing a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for our students is truly commendable.

I was thrilled to see the excitement and energy at our first pep rally. The appearance of Leo the Lion, our beloved school mascot, was a highlight for all. The students' enthusiasm and the resounding chant of "We can! We will! We are the Lions! ROAR" filled the air with a sense of unity and pride.

As we take on week #2, it is important to remember our London Towne values of care, courage, community, and curiosity as these will guide us throughout the year. By embracing these qualities, we can foster a nurturing and inclusive atmosphere where everyone feels valued and empowered.

Thank you once again for your continued support. We value your partnership!Ā  Please reach out as questions and/or concerns arise. Together, we will create a memorable and successful school year.Ā

Please see below for a few important reminders regarding arrival and dismissal.

Warmest regards,

Shele Banford (Principal)

Jordan Moore and Lucy Zamora (Assistant Principals)

Arrival/Dismissal: Patience and Safety

Thank you for your patience as we all get used to new routines this school year. We appreciate your help in ensuring our students' are able to arrive and dismiss from school safely and efficiently.Ā

EARLY DISMISSAL

  • Teachers have limited opportunitiesĀ  to check messages or emails throughout the day. Please alert the main office by 2:00 PM in the event there is a change in your childā€™s regular dismissal plan.Ā  Ā
  • If your child is going home with another student, written permission is needed from both families.Ā Ā
  • Anytime a child is signed out of the office, the adult signing the child out will be required to show a photo ID.Ā Ā
  • Written permission sent via email or text from the parent/guardian is required to release students to any individual not listed on the studentā€™s emergency care card.

BUS

The bus loop will be closed to traffic from 7:55-8:20 and 2:45-3:15.Ā  If a studentā€™s bus is delayed, parents may access the Bus Delay Notification System or use the Here Comes the Bus mobile app to receive the delayed bus report. Email messages will be sent to announce significant bus delays. Contact our main office at 703-227-5400Ā with any additional questions. For any concerns after 5:30 p.m., contact Safety and Security at 571-423-2000.Ā

To make sure you receive email messages about bus delays, update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE.Ā

KISS N' RIDE

In an effort to minimize wait times, improve and reflect our community commitment to safety, and to show respect, please:

  • Honor Traffic Paths: Always adhere to the designated traffic paths and do not cut through the cones. This helps maintain order and prevents confusion for parents.
  • Avoid Parking During Kiss and Ride: Refrain from leaving your parking space during Kiss and Ride, as this can disrupt the flow of traffic and lengthen the line.
  • Do Not Cut Through the Line: Cutting through the line can create congestion and frustration for other families. Please follow the established queue.

WALKERS

  • Utilize the sidewalks and crosswalks at all times when crossing the street and when crossing the parking lot.Ā Ā

Digital Tools Permission Form

2024-25 Early Release Mondays Survey

The Early Release Mondays planned throughout the school year for elementary schools are essential to allow educators time for planning and professional development.Ā  Students will be dismissed 3 hours early seven times throughout the school year and are encouraged to return home via their normal route.Ā  However, we understand there may be a childcare hardship because of the early release Mondays for many of our families.Ā  To resolve these concerns, student supervision will be available for families who need it.Ā

The following dates are planned for Early Release Mondays throughout the school year:

  • September 23
  • October 28
  • November 25
  • February 24
  • March 17
  • April 28
  • May 19

To help plan for our schoolā€™s childcare needs during the early release Mondays, please complete this form for each of your children who are enrolled at London Towne Elementary. The form covers the first two early release Mondays, scheduled for September 23, 2024 and October 28, 2024. If you have multiple children, you will need to submit multiple forms. Staff will confirm the after school supervision plan for each student.

Opt-Out Annual Notice

Fairfax County Public Schools wants all parents and caregivers to understand its policies regarding surveys, records, curriculum, privacy, and related rights.

In its Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights and Opt-Out Forms (Annual Notice), FCPS provides explanations of the rights listed above as well as forms that may be used to exercise opt-out choices. Two versions of the Annual Notice are available: a grades K-8 version and a grades 9-12 version. Parents/caregivers with children at different grade levels should read each applicable version of the Annual Notice, because the notices and opt-out rights vary depending on the studentā€™s grade level.
