Gator Bytes: News and General Information for Kings Glen ES
A Message from Principal Ritter
Dear Kings Glen Families,
Thank you to our staff for transforming our learning spaces into welcoming environments. Special thanks to our incredible PTA for their support in welcoming staff back with a delicious breakfast and facilitating the delivery of our pre-ordered supply kits.
We had a fantastic first day of school and enjoyed welcoming all of the students for the 2024-2025 school year! The excitement is contagious!
We are looking forward to meeting parents and guardians at our annual Back To School Night on Thursday, August 22. See below for details!

Back to School Night
Thursday, August 22
Back to School Night provides a structured opportunity for parents and guardians to meet with teachers and learn important detailed information about academic outcomes for each subject, expectations for the school year, support for students, communication methods for parents, and more. There will be two sessions for families who have more than one child at Kings Glen. The first session will begin no later than 6:15 p.m., and the second session will begin at 7:15 p.m.
All families who have a 6th grade child are asked to attend the first session, which will be held in the cafeteria. Parents/guardians will have the opportunity to hear the 6th grade presentation together, meet the full 6th grade team, followed up a brief opportunity to visit the classrooms of your children.
All families of 4th and 5th graders may go directly to your child’s classroom upon arrival. There will be several staff members throughout the building to assist you.
Beginning at 6 p.m. and between the first session and second session, the Kings Glen specialists (Art, Music, Band, Strings, and PE teachers) will be available for you to meet and answer any questions you may have.

- September 16
- October 21
- November 18
- February 10
- March 10
- April 21
- May 12
A survey was sent to all families via eNotify and TalkingPoints with a school specific link on regarding childcare needs. Each family must respond. Please submit the form by Monday, August 19, 2024.
Cell Phone Policy
📵 Phones Down, Engagement Up: FCPS Cell Phone Policy Keeping cell phones and smart devices (watches) off during the school day helps students focus and learn. It also boosts positive social behavior. Review FCPS’ cell phone expectations by grade level with your child and help keep our classrooms free of distractions! If you need to reach your child during the school day, please call our main office at 703-239-4000 and/or email KGNotes@fcps.edu.
School Supplies for Students in Need
We are in search of brand-new school supplies for students in need for the school year. We are asking the community for donations. You can view a list of needed supplies here
If you have new school supplies to donate, please drop them off or send to school with your child and place in the collection box located by the main office. Thanks for your support!
Welcome to Band and Strings!
We are excited for a new year for students to participate in either Band or Strings! Demonstrations were held this week for both Band and Strings, and enrollment forms for Band and Strings went home in Tuesday folders.
4th Grade students are eligible to enroll in Strings classes, while 5th and 6th Graders are eligible to enroll in either Band or Strings. Unfortunately, students cannot sign up for more than one instrument. Forms should be completed (paper or QR code on the form) by Tuesday, August 27.
We look forward to working with your child this year!

Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights
Fairfax County Public Schools wants all parents and caregivers to understand its policies regarding surveys, records, curriculum, privacy, and related rights.
In its Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights and Opt-Out Forms (Annual Notice), FCPS provides explanations of the rights listed above as well as forms that may be used to exercise opt-out choices. Two versions of the Annual Notice are available: a grades K-8 version and a grades 9-12 version. Parents/caregivers with children at different grade levels should read each applicable version of the Annual Notice, because the notices and opt-out rights vary depending on the student’s grade level.
Get more information and view the 2024-25 Opt-Out Booklets.
