Bailey's Upper ES News You Choose

1st day

Bailey’s Upper Families,

What an EXCELLENT first week of school. We are thrilled to have so many of our Tigers back and have enjoyed welcoming our new 3rd Grader. This week we have been working hard on learning all the new routines and procedures in our classrooms and throughout the school building.

This we have three school-wide expectations (rules):

  1. Make Strong Decisions
  2. Solve Problems
  3. Show Respect

Please take a moment to talk with your child about the expectations. Ask them what it means to make strong decisions, solve problems, and show respect. We hope that focusing on these positive expectations throughout the entire school day our students will continue to grow into well rounded global citizens. We have also taken time to explain logical consequences and what could happen if the school-wide expectations are not followed. For example, if a child is not able to safely walk down the stairs, they may have to walk with the teacher in the front of the line.

Celebrations for Meeting or Exceeding Expectations:

We have also shared with our students an updated process for celebrating those students who consistently meet or go above and beyond expectations. Individual students can earn Tiger Tickets for things like, waiting patiently at the bathroom buddy wait sign, for being a responsible line leader, for picking up trash when they see it on the floor, or helping a friend. Whole classes can earn Tiger Paw certificates for meeting the school-wide expectations in special classes or other places in the building. When students get a certain number of tickets either individually or as a class, they will be rewarded with extra recess, pencils, stickers, small prizes, or other creative ideas the students have come up with.

Tonight, ask your child how many Paw Certificates their class has, once they get to 10, they get a little extra recess!! Check in to see if they have gotten any individual Tiger Tickets and what did they get it for?

We look forward to celebrating all of the wonderful things your children do each day and we also look forward to partnering with you if your child is struggling with classroom or school expectations. We are a team, and we are all here to make sure your child is successful.

Please reach out to us with any questions or concerns regarding your child. We are here to help!

School Board Welcome

What Is a School Board?

The Fairfax County School Board is responsible for running the public schools in Fairfax County. Twelve School Board members are elected by county voters every four years.

A student representative serves on the board as a non-voting member. They are chosen by their peers each year.

The School Board makes general rules and sets guidelines to ensure Fairfax County Public Schools runs properly. They follow the laws of Virginia and the rules set by the Virginia Board of Education.

Learning about your local School Board is important. Understanding their policies and initiatives can help you advocate for positive changes and ensure that the educational needs of all students are met. There are many ways to get involved.

Opt-Out Annual Notice

Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights

Fairfax County Public Schools wants all parents and caregivers to understand its policies regarding surveys, records, curriculum, privacy, and related rights.

In its Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights and Opt-Out Forms (Annual Notice), FCPS provides explanations of the rights listed above as well as forms that may be used to exercise opt-out choices. Two versions of the Annual Notice are available: a grades K-8 version and a grades 9-12 version. Parents/caregivers with children at different grade levels should read each applicable version of the Annual Notice, because the notices and opt-out rights vary depending on the student’s grade level.
