We had a great time seeing families during our Parklawn Community Bus Tour and Family Reunion last week! Students and families were excited to meet their teachers, see friends, and tour the school. We can’t wait to see our students tomorrow morning on the first day of the 2024-2025 school year!
The doors open for students at 8:25 am. Our bell schedule is 8:45-3:30 each day. Families, thank you for reviewing arrival and dismissal methods with your children. It is our goal to begin reinforcing routines and procedures beginning day one. Therefore, family members will not be able to walk students to class on Monday. If your child is a bus rider, we strongly encourage you have them take the bus beginning the first day of school. Thank you!

Messages have been sent regarding the Early Release Monday Survey. Students in grades K-5 will be dismissed 3 hours early seven times throughout the school year and are encouraged to return home via their normal route. However, we understand there may be a childcare hardship because of the early release Mondays for many of our families. To resolve these concerns, student supervision will be available for families who need it.
The following dates are planned for Early Release Mondays throughout the school year:
- September 16
- October 21
- November 18
- February 10
- March 10
- April 21
- May 12
To help plan for our school’s child care needs during the early release Mondays, please complete this form: https://forms.gle/YQRzMQqpynPbfEHu5 for each of your children who are enrolled at Parklawn Elementary. The form covers the first two early release Mondays, scheduled for September 16 and October 21, 2024. If you have multiple children, you will need to submit multiple forms. Staff will confirm the after school supervision plan for each student. If you have not yet completed the survey, please do so by Monday, August 19.

Friday, August 30, and Monday, September 2, are Labor Day holidays for all FCPS employees and students. Virginia legislation requires that schools opening prior to Labor Day must be closed the Friday immediately preceding Labor Day. We hope everyone takes the long weekend to celebrate a strong start to the school year and enjoy time with family and friends. See the complete school year calendar. |

Fairfax County Public Schools wants all parents and caregivers to understand its policies regarding surveys, records, curriculum, privacy, and related rights.
In its Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights and Opt-Out Forms (Annual Notice), FCPS provides explanations of the rights listed above as well as forms that may be used to exercise opt-out choices. Two versions of the Annual Notice are available: a grades K-8 version and a grades 9-12 version. Parents/caregivers with children at different grade levels should read each applicable version of the Annual Notice, because the notices and opt-out rights vary depending on the student’s grade level.
Get more information and view the 2024-25 Opt-Out Booklets.
