Annandale Terrace teachers and staff participated in various professional developments and staff meetings throughout their first week back. Below are some highlights:
On Thursday, August 15, 2024, we opened our doors to welcome our students and their families for Open House. We were so delighted to see everyone! Thank you to all the teachers for being ready and welcoming our students back to school. A huge thank you also goes to our custodial staff for making sure our school was ready for the return of students.
After the Open House, our amazing staff got together for a Fiesta Taco Bar! It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying themselves and the company of each other.
I'm delighted to share that Annandale Terrace Elementary School is the recipient of the America 250! Celebration Grant! We are so excited to work with the Daughters of the American Revolution to supply Revolutionary War-related books for the school's library. In addition to the grant, the Henry Clay Chapter will also donate funds towards the purchase of books.
Congratulations for Ms. Hailey Worsley for being recognized an employee who shows that FCPS CARES. FCPS CARES submission: Thank you for dedicating your time and expertise to create a Performance Matters Practitioner Stories video in support of Performance Matters use within FCPS. Your perspective as a practitioner is invaluable, and we are grateful you chose to share your experiences. Teachers and staff across FCPS will benefit greatly from your presentations. Your willingness to contribute this content is greatly appreciated.
Annandale Pyramid teachers come together to strengthen math instruction!
Dear Annandale Terrace Elementary School families:
I am excited to share that the Annandale Pyramid Math Teachers recently came together to align and strengthen math instruction from kindergarten through 12th grade. After two years of dedicated work, including extensive observations of math instruction across our schools, pyramid principals and math leaders have crafted a unified vision statement to guide this work:
In the Annandale Pyramid, mathematics teaching and learning focuses on developing an understanding of concepts and procedures through problem-solving, reasoning, and discourse.
Our Pyramid Math Kickoff provided every math teacher in our pyramid (Braddock ES, Weyanoke ES, Annandale Terrace ES Columbia ES, Bren Mar Park ES, North Springfield ES, Holmes MS, Poe MS, and Annandale HS) the opportunity to plan the first unit of the year together. They also were able to attend sessions tailored to their interests, with topics ranging from lesson planning and building a classroom community, to increasing student discourse and ensuring that every student can access mathematics.
The feedback from these sessions was overwhelmingly positive. Here are just a few reflections from our educators:
“I got goosebumps hearing the references to the FCPS Vision of Excellence in Mathematics. I truly believe that the work we launched today and the work I know we will continue to do throughout the year is going to help students.”
"Thanks for a great learning session! Do this again with upcoming content."
"It was great to be around new faces and get a better understanding of how to plan for student-centered discourse."
"I loved this! It was wonderful to connect with former colleagues and align our thinking as a pyramid."
"The unpacking portion was really helpful. It’s nice to get takeaways from colleagues outside of my school team."
"This was great! Thanks for a quick and informative PD!"
I am proud of the collaborative spirit that has brought us this far and excited about the path ahead. Together, as a pyramid, we are not just teaching math—we are building a strong foundation for our students' success.
As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions.

Parents can purchase “at school” accident insurance or “24 hour” accident insurance (12 months a year). This is a low-cost insurance program for families to defray medical or dental expenses that results from an accident involving their child. Dear Parent/Caregiver,
The Early Release Mondays planned throughout the school year for elementary schools are essential to allow educators time for planning and professional development. Students will be dismissed 3 hours early seven times throughout the school year and are encouraged to return home via their normal route. However, we understand there may be a childcare hardship because of the early release Mondays for many of our families. To resolve these concerns, student supervision will be available for families who need it.
The following dates are planned for Early Release Mondays throughout the school year:
- September 16
- October 21
- November 18
- February 10
- March 10
- April 21
- May 12
To help plan for our school’s childcare needs during the early release Mondays, please complete this form: https://forms.gle/ArQHc8DRZ31yq5NE6 for each of your children who are enrolled at Annandale Terrace Elementary. The form covers the first two early release Mondays, scheduled for September 16, 2024, and October 21, 2024. If you have multiple children, you will need to submit multiple forms. Staff will confirm the after-school supervision plan for each student.
Thanks,
Principal Badia
Fairfax County Public Schools wants all parents and caregivers to understand its policies regarding surveys, records, curriculum, privacy, and related rights.
In its Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights and Opt-Out Forms (Annual Notice), FCPS provides explanations of the rights listed above as well as forms that may be used to exercise opt-out choices. Two versions of the Annual Notice are available: a grades K-8 version and a grades 9-12 version. Parents/caregivers with children at different grade levels should read each applicable version of the Annual Notice, because the notices and opt-out rights vary depending on the student’s grade level.
Get more information and view the 2024-25 Opt-Out Booklets.
Please check with your healthcare provider as soon as possible to make sure your child is up-to-date on the immunizations required by the state of Virginia. Starting Monday, September 30, students who have not provided proof of immunization will not be allowed to attend school.
You can check your child’s immunization compliance and submit their immunization record in SIS ParentVUE. Records may also be delivered to a school’s front office.
If your child needs a vaccine, please make an appointment with your healthcare provider, visit the Fairfax County Health Department website for a list of child immunization clinics, or access other local services. If needed, families may also provide other immunization documentation including a healthcare provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption or a notarized Religious Exemption Form.
Find more information on immunizations on the FCPS website.
FCPS has tools to help parents know more about their child’s activity on any FCPS device. These tools are provided at no cost to families by Lightspeed, the school division’s internet content filtering service.
Parents may sign up for a weekly Parent Report, which will provide a list of the top sites your child visited. The report also offers parents the ability to sign up for free access to the Internet Use Parent Portal. Through the portal, parents may pause their child’s access to the internet on their FCPS device during non-school hours.
