Hi Bull Run families!
This week our staff were busy engaging in professional development opportunities and getting their classrooms ready to welcome our students back!
We hope as you enter the school this year, you keep in mind the work that has been put in by our staff. Our custodians worked so hard over the summer making our building shiny and clean! Bringing in our STRONG attributes, let's all work together to keep it 'Neat' and have 'Ownership' over our school's appearance! Additionally, we have made some changes to our lobby and main office to create a welcoming and inclusive space for students, families, staff and visitors.
On Thursday, we welcomed our new Bulls; our Kindergarten students and their families! Thank you to our PTA for supplying ice pops. It was such a pleasure meeting everyone! They even got to meet our mascot, Charger the Bull!
Tomorrow, we plan on welcoming all of our new and returning families for Open House, any time between 10:00-12:00 (grades PreK-6). We can't wait to see you!
As we begin a new school year we want to ask all of you to think about the legacy we want our children to leave this year and what we want our legacy to be as a family. We truly hope and expect that we will want that legacy to be one of greatness, high achievement, and expectations in all that we do and accomplish together.
Have a great weekend, and we cannot wait to see all of the students on Monday! We will be having Fairfax County Fire Department here in the parking lot on Monday morning to welcome all of our Bulls back with us!
-Mr. Marotta

School Year Calendar
Be sure to bookmark the FCPS school year calendar to keep track of school holidays, breaks, and observances.
- Days marked with blue Hs are student holidays.
- Days marked with orange Os are religious and cultural observance days (or evenings if only half marked).
- Days marked in pink are holidays for students, but working days for teachers and staff.
The Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar, and the start of each month coincides with the birth of a new moon. The date of Eid a-Fitr is regionally decided, which can lead to unexpected date changes. Eid al-Fitr is currently slated to begin at sundown on Sunday, March 30, 2025, and lasts through sundown Monday, March 31, 2025. Monday is a holiday, with all schools and offices being closed. If the day for Eid changes after the school year begins, the calendar may be adjusted.

Please be mindful when entering Bull Run ES during arrival and dismissal.
To ensure all our families safety, if traveling toward the battlefield on Lee HWY, continue past Bull Run ES and complete a u-turn at the next available left-turn. All cars should enter Bull Run ES by turning right at the light (Pleasant Valley and Lee HWY) while traveling towards Centreville on Lee HWY.
To keep traffic patterns flowing smoothly when driving into the school for Kiss & Ride, cars should stay in the right lane as the left lane is reserved for buses entering Bull Run ES.
This will ensure our families are entering and exiting Bull Run safely.
*remember that we encourage all Bull Run students to use FCPS transportation (our beautiful yellow Buses)

Immunization Reminders for Return to School
🩹 Are Your Child’s Immunizations and Records Up to Date?
Immunizations are required for all students to attend school in Virginia. This is an important part of protecting them from certain diseases and keeping them healthy. Please log in to SIS ParentVUE to see what immunizations your child has recorded.
Please check with your healthcare provider to make sure your child is up-to-date on the immunizations required by the state of Virginia as soon as possible. If your child needs a vaccine, please make an appointment with your healthcare provider, visit the Fairfax County Health Department website for a list of child immunization clinics, or access other local services.
Remember to request your child’s immunization record and bring that to the school’s front office or submit the record via SIS ParentVUE as soon as possible. Find more information on FCPS’ website.

School Meals Information
Preparing for and Paying for Meals at School
Parents/caregivers need to provide their students with money to purchase meals at school, send them with a packed lunch, or apply (and be approved) for free and reduced-price meals benefits. School breakfast for students costs $1.75. Lunch is $3.25 for elementary students and $3.50 for middle, secondary, and high school students.
The best way to purchase meals and additional food items is to use MySchoolBucks. If you have not already, set up your student’s MySchoolBucks account today.
MySchoolBucks accounts can be set up to add money to the account automatically as needed, and families with multiple children can use the same MySchoolBucks account.
Visit FCPS’ Food and Nutrition webpage for more information.
Apply for Free and Reduced-Priced Meals:
The application for free and reduced-priced meals is now available for the 2024-25 school year. Students who were approved for free and reduced-price lunch last year are eligible for the first 30 days of school this year (or until a new application is processed). Families should re-apply as soon as possible, so eligible students continue to receive meals at no cost.
