Dear Annandale Terrace Elementary School families:
We are so excited for the start of the 2024-25 school year! We’ve been busy preparing for the return of our wonderful students on August 19, 2024. Our theme for the school year is Together, we are amazing!
This theme reflects the power of unity, collaboration, and incredible potential we have when we work together as a community. School hours are Monday through Friday 8:35AM – 3:20PM – Students may enter the building at 8:20AM.
Bus information was sent to you by email and/or text on Thursday, August 15, 2024. If you did not receive this information, please call the front office so that we can support you. Please be sure to familiarize your child with their bus stop. For safety reasons, preschool and kindergarten students who ride the bus in the afternoon are to be met at the bus door and asked for by name by a parent, parent designee, guardian, or a responsible middle or high school age sibling. Children will be returned to school if the driver has concerns for their safety.
If your child is a walker, make sure he/she knows if they are to walk home alone or meet you at a school entrance. Preschool and kindergarten must be met at the school.
Car rider students will be dismissed out of door 13 to be picked up in the car line. All parents of students being picked up in our Kiss & Ride will need a car tag number. Two car tags will be available to pick up at the Open House and/or the office. To promote student safety, parents must have a car tag when picking up students during dismissal. Please use the new car tags provided this year. Old tags are no longer valid.
This year, Annandale Terrace will continue to be a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) school providing all students with free breakfast and lunch at school. Parents/guardians of students attending CEP schools do not need to apply for free and reduced-price meals to receive free meals and no further action is required by the parents/guardians of students attending CEP schools. However, parents/guardians of students attending CEP schools are strongly encouraged to submit a free and reduced-price meal application because:
- Student(s) attending CEP schools may wish to receive a free or reduced-price notification letter that qualifies the student(s) for additional benefits, such as discounts with sports leagues, after school clubs, etc...
- The FCPS Consent to Share Information for Other Programs will continue to be utilized and is included in the free and reduced-price meal application process.
An application is available at school, on the FCPS webpage, or by contacting Food and Nutrition Services at 703-813-4800 or 703-813-4844. For more information, please refer to Food and Nutrition Services at https://www.fcps.edu/node/31049 .
We are looking forward to having a wonderful school year because – Together, we are amazing! And we can't wait to see our students’ smiling faces on August 19th!
Warm regards,
Ingrid Badia

Wednesday Folders are an essential way for the Annandale Terrace Staff to communicate with parents. Wednesday Folders will go home every Wednesday. Please check your child’s backpack for important messages and papers from the school and return any necessary documents along with the yellow folder the next day.
As summer winds down, our school and staff are looking forward to welcoming students back to our classrooms. Before the first day of school, make sure you have completed the following:
- Sign Up for SIS ParentVUE
Access your student’s attendance records, grades, and assignments at any time with SIS ParentVUE. Parents/caregivers should receive an activation code when they register their child. Contact the school registrar, Jose Vega at jlvega@fcps.edu if you need a code.
Once you have activated a SIS ParentVUE account for an FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same SIS ParentVUE account. Access SIS ParentVUE using an app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android devices.
Need help creating an account? This video walks through the steps. Find out more about SIS ParentVUE.
- Update Your Contact Information
To be sure you receive important information from your schools, update your phone numbers and/or email addresses in the Parent/Guardian section of SIS ParentVUE.
- Update Immunizations and Records
Immunizations are required for all students to attend school in Virginia. This is an important part of protecting them from certain diseases and keeping them healthy. Please log in to SIS ParentVUE to see what immunizations your child has recorded.
Please check with your healthcare provider to make sure your child is up-to-date on the immunizations required by the state of Virginia as soon as possible. If your child needs a vaccine, please make an appointment with your healthcare provider, visit the Fairfax County Health Department website for a list of child immunization clinics, or access other local services.
Remember to request your child’s immunization record and bring that to the school’s front office or submit the record via SIS ParentVUE as soon as possible. Find more information on FCPS’ website.
Breakfast and lunch will still be provided to ATES students for free for the school year 2024-2025. Your family is still encouraged to apply for Free and Reduced-Priced Meals to qualify the student(s) for additional benefits, such as reduced tuition fee for sports clubs. The FCPS Consent to Share Information for Other Programs form will continue to be utilized and is included in the free and reduced-price meal application process. The application for free and reduced-priced meals is now available for the 2024-25 school year.
- Save the Date: Back-to-School Night
09/18 Back to School Night (5:30-7:30pm)
- 🔖 Bookmark the School Year Calendar
Be sure to bookmark the FCPS school year calendar to keep track of school holidays, breaks, and observances:
- Days marked with a blue “H” are student holidays. Schools are closed on these days.
- Days marked with an orange “O” are religious and cultural observance days (or evenings if only half marked). There is school on these days, but certain events that cannot be made up may not be scheduled on these days.
- Days marked in pink are holidays for students, but working days for teachers and staff.
Note: Some holidays and observances, such as Eid al-Fitr, may shift and the calendar may be adjusted.
ATES Updates will be posted to the community every Friday afternoon of each week.
Dear Parent/Caregiver,
The Early Release Mondays planned throughout the school year for elementary schools are essential to allow educators time for planning and professional development. Students will be dismissed 3 hours early seven times throughout the school year and are encouraged to return home via their normal route. However, we understand there may be a childcare hardship because of the early release Mondays for many of our families. To resolve these concerns, student supervision will be available for families who need it.
The following dates are planned for Early Release Mondays throughout the school year:
- September 16
- October 21
- November 18
- February 10
- March 10
- April 21
- May 12
To help plan for our school’s childcare needs during the early release Mondays, please complete this form: https://forms.gle/ArQHc8DRZ31yq5NE6 for each of your children who are enrolled at Annandale Terrace Elementary. The form covers the first two early release Mondays, scheduled for September 16, 2024, and October 21, 2024. If you have multiple children, you will need to submit multiple forms. Staff will confirm the after-school supervision plan for each student.
Thanks,
Principal Badia
Fairfax County Public Schools wants all parents and caregivers to understand its policies regarding surveys, records, curriculum, privacy, and related rights.
In its Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights and Opt-Out Forms (Annual Notice), FCPS provides explanations of the rights listed above as well as forms that may be used to exercise opt-out choices. Two versions of the Annual Notice are available: a grades K-8 version and a grades 9-12 version. Parents/caregivers with children at different grade levels should read each applicable version of the Annual Notice, because the notices and opt-out rights vary depending on the student’s grade level.
Get more information and view the 2024-25 Opt-Out Booklets.
Please check with your healthcare provider as soon as possible to make sure your child is up-to-date on the immunizations required by the state of Virginia. Starting Monday, September 30, students who have not provided proof of immunization will not be allowed to attend school.
You can check your child’s immunization compliance and submit their immunization record in SIS ParentVUE. Records may also be delivered to a school’s front office.
If your child needs a vaccine, please make an appointment with your healthcare provider, visit the Fairfax County Health Department website for a list of child immunization clinics, or access other local services. If needed, families may also provide other immunization documentation including a healthcare provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption or a notarized Religious Exemption Form.
Find more information on immunizations on the FCPS website.
The Fairfax County School Board is responsible for running the public schools in Fairfax County. Twelve school board members are elected by county voters every four years.
A student representative serves on the board as a non-voting member. They are chosen by their peers each year.
The School Board makes general rules and sets guidelines to ensure Fairfax County Public Schools runs properly. They follow the laws of Virginia and the rules set by the Virginia Board of Education.
Learning about your local school board is important. Understanding their policies and initiatives can help you advocate for positive changes and ensure that the educational needs of all students are met. There are many ways to get involved.
