Dear KJMS Families,
We are looking forward to welcoming almost 1200 students to Katherine Johnson Middle School on Monday (8/19) for the first day of the 2024-2025 school year! All of our students will receive a paper copy of their schedule in 1st period classes on Monday. We will have plenty of staff in the halls helping students throughout the day to assist students and make sure they have a successful day! A reminder all students should place their cell phone in their backpack from 7:25-2:15 each school day. See below for additional details related to the start of the school year.
If you have any questions or concerns you can contact our main office at 703-934-2400 or contact me directly at cmsmith@fcps.edu
Enjoy your weekend and Go Eagles!
Chris Smith Principal, Katherine Johnson Middle School
Starting August 19, parents and caregivers can report up to two consecutive full-day absences using ParentVUE.
For absences longer than two days, please contact the school via JohnsonMiddle.Attendance@fcps.edu or call 703-934-2424.
All Day Absences: The Attendance feature in ParentVUE is the FCPS secure web solution for reporting all day absences.
Partial Absence: To report late arrivals, early dismissals, or to update already submitted attendance, please contact the school via email to JohnsonMiddle.Attendance@fcps.edu or call 703-934-2424.
Parents must show a photo ID to the main office when signing out their student(s).
Keeping cell phones off during the school day helps students focus and learn. It also boosts positive social behavior. Review FCPS’ cell phone expectations by grade level with your child and help keep our classrooms free of distractions! If you need to reach your child during the school day, please call our main office at (703) 934-2402, then press "0".
Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy,
and Related Rights
Fairfax County Public Schools wants all parents and caregivers to understand its policies regarding surveys, records, curriculum, privacy, and related rights.
In its Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights and Opt-Out Forms (Annual Notice), FCPS provides explanations of the rights listed above as well as forms that may be used to exercise opt-out choices. Two versions of the Annual Notice are available: a grades K-8 version and a grades 9-12 version. Parents/caregivers with children at different grade levels should read each applicable version of the Annual Notice, because the notices and opt-out rights vary depending on the student’s grade level.
Get more information and view the 2024-25 Opt-Out Booklets.
September 5 & 6
All 7th graders and only 8th graders new to the county will go through the Vision and Hearing Screening. All students will have their picture taken between these two days. Below are the link to sign up to volunteer if you are available.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your School Health Aide, Sandy Johnson, at 703-934-2410.
Thank you.
Please check with your healthcare provider as soon as possible to make sure your child is up-to-date on the immunizations required by the state of Virginia. Starting Monday, September 30, students who have not provided proof of immunization will not be allowed to attend school.
You can check your child’s immunization compliance and submit their immunization record in SIS ParentVUE. Records may also be delivered to a school’s front office.
If your child needs a vaccine, please make an appointment with your healthcare provider, visit the Fairfax County Health Department website for a list of child immunization clinics, or access other local services. If needed, families may also provide other immunization documentation including a healthcare provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption or a notarized Religious Exemption Form.
Find more information on immunizations on the FCPS website.
