Welcome Back

It is hard to believe we have started school! We hope you all had a safe and restful summer. It seems like last year bled into this year ever so quickly. Your JHS Parent Teacher Student Association volunteers have already been hard at work doing our part to help our community be the best version of itself. After our intense advocacy last Spring surrounding the FCPS Principal selection process, we hit the ground running welcoming our new Principal, Dr. Sean Rolon. We hosted a community Meet & Greet at the end of last school-year and then, immediately following the end of the year, we also helped organize both the Department Chair meeting and the Student Leaders meeting with Dr. Rolon.

The PTSA plans to continue its work with both faculty and students via new initiatives for feedback collection and with direct-funding opportunities for special projects and needs. This includes continuing collaboration and communication with the department chairs via their meetings. Also, we are continuing with our new PTSA Student Advocacy Committee, which will include one student representative from each club, honor society, varsity team, program, and graduation class - that will meet during Advisory approximately every other Friday and whose selected representatives will meet at least quarterly with Dr. Rolon.

We will also continue to focus on our advocacy concerning our new designation as a Title 1 school, including ensuring that the expenditure plan is transparent and that all of our stakeholders have an opportunity to contribute input regarding the needs in our school that Title 1 funding might help to ameliorate.

The PTSA has mapped out most of our schedule of events for the 2024-2025 school year. Thank you to all those who generously gave of their time or dollars to help execute the PTSA-sponsored Welcome Back Breakfast for our wonderful Justice HS teachers and staff and for the Senior Sunrise Breakfast for the Class of 2025. We are also looking forward to our first day this year of the Wolf Shack: Food & Resource Pantry. We are grateful for every question, comment, idea, minute, or dollar that you all give to help us execute programming and to do our part for our community. We could not do it without you! Please continue to let us know how we can be of service and feel free to join or inform our efforts in any way you are able.

Our Justice community has a lot about which to be proud. Let's keep our eye on the prize: being the absolute best we can be - set trends, have high expectations, and strive for all that our kids deserve.

GO WOLVES!

Sincerely,

Kim Lanoue

President, Justice High School PTSA

FORUMS ON MIDDLE SCHOOL START TIMES

FCPS is exploring options for adjusting middle school start times and invites the public to be part of the process. Learn more about the project exploring middle school start times.

FCPS BOUNDARY REVIEW PROCESS

The School Board approved updates to the Boundary Policy (Policy 8130) at the July 18 Regular Public Meeting. The revision serves to define the school boundary policy for the assignment of students to schools and programs, to close, open or consolidate schools and programs where appropriate, and to outline the considerations for such determinations. The policy further prioritizes access to programming, enrollment and capacity, proximity and transportation as primary factors.

The revised policy does not propose specific boundary changes. The Superintendent will present a detailed project management plan to the Board at a Regular Business Meeting in August. The revised policy compels regular review of the school attendance zones which should result in timely and equitable response to school capacity challenges and access to various academic programming.
