Cooling down and making new friends at our "Popsicles on the Playground"

Notes from the Administration

Dear CWES Families,

It was a pleasure to meet many new families at our Popsicles on the Playground event this week. Our teachers are diligently preparing their classrooms, and we eagerly anticipate welcoming everyone to our Open House next week.

The Open House is scheduled for Friday, August 16th, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM. You are welcome to visit at any time during these hours to drop off supplies, connect with the PTA and community organizations in the cafeteria, and meet your child’s teacher. Specialists, including those from the band and strings programs, will also be present in the cafeteria.

CWES parents and guardians with an email address on file will receive a message on the evening of August 13th with your child's teacher’s name and room number for the new school year. Additionally, this information will be available in your ParentVUE account the following day. If you have any questions or do not receive the email, please contact the school at (703) 764-5600.

Our Public Health Nurse and School Health Aide will be available during the Open House for medication intake.

Earlier today, you should have received an email containing a survey about your afterschool needs for our three-hour early release days. Please complete the survey as soon as possible, no later than August 19th.

We look forward to seeing you all next week!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Leslie Malkowski, Kristi McGeehan, and Mindy Milliron

CWES Administrative Team

Limited Early Release Mondays

As a reminder, FCPS elementary schools will have limited early release Mondays during the upcoming school year. The goal is to provide elementary teachers with additional time to meet new professional development requirements for the Virginia Literacy Act.

You can help us with planning for the seven early release Mondays. Please watch your email for a short survey from us asking if your child will leave at the early release time on these days or remain at school until the standard dismissal time. Your response will help us in planning activities for students who will need to stay at school until regular dismissal time.

We realize there are many details for us to finalize before our first early release Monday in mid-September. Thank you for your patience, we strive to create a positive and successful experience for students, families, and teachers.

Early release Mondays for our school include:

  • September 16
  • October 21
  • November 18
  • February 10
  • March 10
  • April 21
  • May 12

Attendance Reporting in ParentVUE

New Feature in ParentVUE: Report Full-Day Absences

Starting on the first day of school, Monday, August 19, parents/caregivers can submit full-day absences through FCPS’ SIS ParentVUE platform. This will make reporting and tracking absences easier for our school.

Parents/caregivers may report absences by using ParentVUE or by contacting the front office. Please find important details below:

  • How to Use ParentVUE: Log in to your ParentVUE account and select “Report Absence.”
  • More Ways to Report: Use our [attendance phone line and/or email] for absences longer than two days, late arrivals, and early dismissals.
  • Where to Get Help: Visit FCPS’ Attendance Reporting webpage for step-by-step instructions.

If you need to set up a ParentVUE account or have questions, please contact our front office at (703) 764-5600. They will provide you with an “activation key” and instructions to create a ParentVUE account. We are excited to see your student on August 19!
