Dear Floris Families,

We hope this letter finds each of you enjoying the last week of summer break and that you have had time to relax, spend time with family and friends, and perhaps even do some traveling. We are very much looking forward to reconnecting with each of you and hearing about your adventures!

As a reminder, all students will start school in person on Monday, August 19, and we are excited to see them all!

As we begin the 2024-2025 school year, we are eager to celebrate our past successes, acknowledge our current status, and look forward to our continued growth together. Our school improvement plan is complete, and we are maintaining our focus on high-quality Tier 1 instruction, developing our strong collaborative learning teams, and fostering a positive, equitable, and joyful culture at Floris Elementary School. We will renew our commitment to high levels of student engagement with a focus on Responsive Classroom language and routines.

This week, we welcomed our new staff, and on Monday, our entire team will gather to collaborate, plan, and prepare for the students’ return on August 19. We are excited to raise the bar for quality instruction, knowing each student by name and need. We will ensure that students have opportunities to build relationships not just with their classmates, but with their entire grade level and school community.

Below this message, you will find an outline of important dates and information about the start of the school year. We look forward to connecting with our families at the in-person Open House next Friday, August 16, and at Back to School Nights on August 27 and 28.

In closing, we are thrilled to embark on this new school year with you and to energize our work with positive enthusiasm! It is our sincere desire to ensure that this school year begins with all the necessary support for you. If you have questions or concerns that we have not addressed, please do not hesitate to let us know. We look forward to seeing everyone at Open House and Back to School Night!

Sincerely,

Joshua DeSmyter, Principal

Mark Your Calendars!

We know that the beginning of the school year is a whirlwind!  Check out our back to school timeline below to keep track of it all:

Transportation

Kiss and Ride:

In order to streamline our Kiss and Ride process, you must register your child(ren) so that you are assigned a kiss and ride number. 2023-2024 Kiss and Ride numbers will NO LONGER BE VALID. All registered families will receive a new number for 2024-2025 that will be associated with your child(ren).

Once you register, you will receive a laminated number to display in the front window of your car.  Each family will get a car number, and your child(ren) must know their family number at dismissal time.

👉 In order to receive your Kiss and Ride number at Open House on Friday, August 16, please complete the Kiss and Ride registration by 4pm on Wednesday, August 14.

Bus:

The transportation office is working on bus routes for the upcoming school year. You can expect to receive the bus number, bus stop location, and approximate times for pick-up and drop-off in August right before the start of school.
