Can you believe it? Summer is wrapping up, and a brand-new school year is just around the corner! We hope your summer was packed with fun and fantastic new memories with your family.

Our superstar custodial team ā€“ Nicholas, Emma, Jose, and Lino ā€“ have been working their magic to get our school sparkling and ready for action. They're the real MVPs behind the scenes!

Weā€™re excited to welcome our families back and kick off another year together! We can't wait to reconnect with our amazing school community and see all the wonderful surprises this new school year has in store.

At Sunrise Valley, we will continue to foster a culture of Respect, encourage Independence, prioritize Safety, and build a foundation of Empathy. Together, weā€™ll make this year a RISE-ing success!

Each month, you'll receive a newsletter highlighting the amazing things happening at SVES, including important dates and spotlights from our instructional team. In addition to our monthly newsletter, we'll send weekly bulletins (as shown below) with general school or county information.Ā  These communications will go out on Sunday mornings. šŸ¤ Meet Your Teacher!

Please join us for our annual open house on Friday, August 16, from 10-11am. Feel free to drop in anytime during this hour to meet your teacher, greet your classmates, and drop off your school supplies.

Directly following the open house, the PTA is hosting "Popsicles on the Playground," and all families are invited to join.

Lists for each grade level are available here. Families who purchased school supplies through the PTA, your supplies will be delivered to classrooms ahead of Open House.

We're excited to kick off another wonderful year with the Sunrise Valley community.Ā

Here's a few ways that you can already get involved:

  • PopsiclesĀ on the Playground:Ā Come hang out with us after Open House onĀ Friday, August 16,Ā for Popsicles on the Playground atĀ 11am. Kids can play and enjoy frozenĀ treats (late morning snacks?!) while friends and families meet and catch up.
  • Welcome Breakfast:Ā Some might know this breakfast as the Boo Hoo or Woo Hoo Breakfast. However you're feeling that day, we're inviting all families, new and returning, to stop by the school cafeteria immediately after drop off onĀ Monday, August 19, at 9:20am. Take a few moments before you officially start your day, and join us for coffee and a light breakfast, courtesy of longstanding PTA sponsor,Ā Northern Virginia Orthodontics.
  • First PTA Meeting:Ā All are welcome! Attend our first meeting onĀ Wednesday, September 4, at 9:30amĀ (cafeteria). Chat with other parents, review this yearā€™s proposed budget, and hear about our planned programs and events for the year.

šŸ”” SVES Bell Schedule

Sunrise Valley will continue with a 9:20 a.m. - 4:05 p.m. daily bell schedule Monday to Friday. Students may arrive on campus beginning at 9:00 a.m. Upon arrival, students should proceed to the gym. At 9:10 a.m., students will be dismissed to their classrooms, and school will begin promptly at 9:20 a.m. Students are expected to be in their seats by 9:20 a.m. for an on-time arrival.


šŸ—“ļø School Year Calendar & Early Release Mondays

We look forward to welcoming our students back to school on Monday, August 19.Ā  See the complete 2024-25 school year calendar.

This year, the county has approved seven, three-hour early release Mondays.Ā  Sunrise Valley will dismiss at 1:05 p.m. on the dates below:Ā Ā 

  • September 23
  • October 28
  • November 25
  • February 24
  • March 17
  • April 28
  • May 19

This time will be utilized for teacher planning time to support students, complete required professional development for the new Virginia Literacy Act, new reading and math standards, and other initiatives.Ā

We strongly encourage every parent to open a ParentVue account.Ā  The SIS ParentVUE Account is the FCPS secure solution for accessing information about your child's attendance, report cards, class schedules, health, and school information such as bus transportation .

If you do not have a ParentVue account, please email Colleen Mac Murtrie at cwmacmurtrie@fcps.edu for a ParentVue activation letter with login credentials to get started.

šŸ’‰ Immunization Reminder

Please submit updated immunization records to your school as soon as possible.Ā 

All students are required to be immunized against certain communicable diseases to attend school in the state of Virginia. It is important for all students to receive the required immunizations.Ā 

Please talk with your family health care provider about whether or not your children are up to date on their vaccines before the new school year begins.

More information on immunization requirements and the necessary documentation is available online.


šŸš Bus Information

Through your SIS ParentVue account, you can see your childā€™s transportation assignments and intent on the ā€œStudent Infoā€ tab. Transportation assignments will become available on August 12, 2024, and changes may be made up to August 14, 2024.


šŸ„— Lunch/Breakfast Prices, Payments, Menus and Free and Reduced-Price Meals

Breakfast and lunch prices, menus and payment methods are available here.

Should your family require assistance for Free and Reduced-priced meals, information to apply can be found here.Ā 

Students approved for free and reduced-priced meals qualify for additional benefits such as waived or reduced fees for instruments, class fees and field trips.Ā  To receive these additional benefits, you must complete the Free and Reduced Meals Consent to Share form.

Join us for our Back-to-School Night on August 28, 2024 from 6:30-7:35 PM to meet your child's teacher and learn about the exciting year ahead! We'll share important information about curriculum, expectations, and how we can partner together to support your child's success. More details to follow.

FCPS EVENT:

Our Voices, Our Future: Multilingual Learners Summit

All multilingual learners and their families are invited to attend a summit on Thursday, August 8, 2024 from 5-8:30 p.m. at Annandale High School. The summit will be primarily geared for secondary multilingual learners, but all are welcome to attend. The goal of the summit is to foster an environment of empowerment where multilingual students and their families can establish meaningful connections, engage in active listening, and openly share their experiences, cultivating mutual support and a deeper understanding of educational pathways within FCPS.Ā Ā 

This event will begin with a table fair showcasing many opportunities available within FCPS and the wider community that support paths to graduation and future careers for students.Ā  Additionally, a keynote will be presented by Dr. Jose Luis Zelaya who will share a message about the power of community and resilience.Ā  A student panel will dialogue with Dr. Zelaya following the keynote.Ā Ā 

Refreshments and light food will be served. Language and childcare services will be available.Ā  All secondary level multilingual learners have been invited centrally from FCPS via email.Ā  Registration is open for students, families, or staff planning to attend.Ā Ā Ā Ā
