We're Painting the Towne Red!
And GREEN! And BLUE! Come check out the other colors in the pods and Lion-themed street signs in our "mane" hallways when you come visit for Open House! Huge thanks to ESOL teacher Julie Kimble for making her colorful idea a reality by assembling a team of volunteers and ordering needed supplies!
🦁 Greetings, Lion Families!
We hope you are savoring these last moments of summer and are excited to get the new school year started!
We are looking forward to welcoming all staff back on Monday, August 12th. Many have been in the building this week setting up classrooms, joining in professional learning, and “Painting the Towne!” When you join us for Open House on Friday, August 16th, you are in for quite a treat as our staff has transformed the building into a true Towne. As you travel down “Mane Street” or visit “Pride Place,“ notice all the bright and inviting colorful additions.
At Open House, families will get to visit your child’s new teacher’s classroom, drop off supplies and share some student and family information with this year’s teacher.

Transportation Information |
As we begin to prepare for the upcoming school year, it’s time to think about how students will be transported to and from school.
Buses
Bus routes will be available for families in the Open House Packet. If you have concerns about your child's school bus transportation, speak to the transportation supervisor responsible for London Towne (Area 3 Office - 703-249-7000) or call the Office of Transportation Services at 703-446-2000.
Stay up-to-date on school bus arrivals with FCPS' bus delay notification system. This system provides parents with timely notification of late bus route information. Parents may access the Bus Delay Notification System or use the FCPS Mobile App to receive the delayed bus report. Morning route information will be available until noon. Afternoon bus route information will be available from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Kindergarten students who ride the bus in the afternoon are to be met at the bus door and asked for by name by a parent, parent designee, guardian, or a responsible middle school age or higher sibling. Children will be returned to school if the driver has concerns for their safety.
Walkers
Walkers are encouraged to follow pedestrian safety expectations. Walk directly to and from school and stay on the route planned for you by your parents. Encourage students to walk in groups or pairs if parents can't accompany them. Use sidewalks whenever possible. Before crossing, look left, right, and left again for any approaching vehicles. Cross the street at marked crosswalks and intersections whenever possible. Never talk to strangers or accept rides from people you do not know. Obey instructions of police officers, crossing guards, and safety patrols.
Kiss and Ride
The Kiss & Ride is a designated area (identified by signs) for parents picking up or unloading their children by private vehicle. The area is separate from the bus loading/unloading location so there is no conflict with the two operations. At London Towne, this is in the side parking lot. If you would like a Kiss & Ride number, please see the table near the lobby during Open House to sign the contract and get your number.
For the Kiss & Ride to function properly, several procedures must be followed.
To keep children safe:
- Children load and unload from the passenger side of the car only, so they will not have to cross the driveway in front of traffic.
- Drivers remain in the car. Safety patrols and staff will assist with the car door.
- Cars stay in a single file line as they move to and from the Kiss & Ride.
To keep the line moving:
- Cars are to make a right turn only into the parking lot.
- Cars are to make a right turn only out of the parking lot
- Families keep their good-byes brief so that we can keep the line moving

2024-25 Early Release Mondays Survey |
The Early Release Mondays planned throughout the school year for elementary schools are essential to allow educators time for planning and professional development. Students will be dismissed 3 hours early seven times throughout the school year and are encouraged to return home via their normal route. However, we understand there may be a childcare hardship because of the early release Mondays for many of our families. To resolve these concerns, student supervision will be available for families who need it.
The following dates are planned for Early Release Mondays throughout the school year:
- September 23
- October 28
- November 25
- February 24
- March 17
- April 28
- May 19
To help plan for our school’s childcare needs during the early release Mondays, please complete this form for each of your children who are enrolled at London Towne Elementary. The form covers the first two early release Mondays, scheduled for September 23, 2024 and October 28, 2024. If you have multiple children, you will need to submit multiple forms. Staff will confirm the after school supervision plan for each student.
