Administration Update - We are excited to welcome our new Assistant Principal, Ms. Emily Corbin. She was born and raised in Norfolk, VA and moved up to Northern Virginia to attend George Mason University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Business. She returned to GMU in 2013 to complete her Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. Later in 2019, she attended Virginia Tech where she earned her Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. Ms. Corbin is a former high school math teacher who taught at South County HS before becoming an Assistant Principal at Lewis HS in 2019. Her wealth of experiences include positively impacting student achievement by narrowing gaps in Math and Language Arts performance while decreasing the drop-out rate to less than 2% in 2024. She will be supervising the Math Department and be the administrator for students last name Nat-Sand. Welcome Ms. Corbin! |

-
Ms. Taylor Oakley comes to us after five years at Robinson on the HS side as a school counselor. Prior to Robinson Ms. Oakley spent four years as a counselor at both James Madison High School and Osbourn Park High School. Ms. Oakley holds her BA in Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice from SUNY Albany and her MS in School Counseling from SUNY Oneota. Ms. Taylor will support students last name Bef-Chau
- The rest of the alphabet and counselor information can be found on our website here. Alphabet adjustments were very limited and only impacted students who would have had a new counselor based on departures from our team.
Laptop Distribution
- Laptop distribution will take place on the first two days of school. Students will pick up their laptop during English class accompanied by their English teacher.
- Students who checked out a laptop over the summer will continue to use it for the 24-25 school year. If a student plans to use a personal laptop, they should not check out a school laptop. Students can stop by the Tech Office with any questions.
Important information to know:
- Laptop must be brought to school every day fully charged.
- We recommend not bringing your charger to school, this is how they get lost. Make it a habit to charge it every night!
- If you have a charger obligation from the 23-24 school year, you must pay it before receiving another charger.
- Laptops/chargers belong to West Potomac HS. If you leave West Potomac HS, you must return both items.
- Laptop/chargers are repaired through the Tech Office. There is a replacement cost if either item is lost/stolen.
- A replacement charger costs $23
- A replacement laptop costs $444

Multilingual Learners Summt
- All multilingual learners and their families are invited to attend a summit on Thursday, August 8, 2024 from 5-8:30 p.m. at Annandale High School. The summit will be primarily geared for secondary multilingual learners, but all are welcome to attend. The goal of the summit is to foster an environment of empowerment where multilingual students and their families can establish meaningful connections, engage in active listening, and openly share their experiences, cultivating mutual support and a deeper understanding of educational pathways within FCPS.
- This event will begin with a table fair showcasing many opportunities available within FCPS and the wider community that support paths to graduation and future careers for students. Additionally, a keynote will be presented by Dr. Jose Luis Zelaya who will share a message about the power of community and resilience. A student panel will dialogue with Dr. Zelaya following the keynote.
- Refreshments and light food will be served. Language and childcare services will be available. All secondary level multilingual learners have been invited centrally from FCPS via email. Registration is open for students, families, or staff planning to attend.
