Early Release Mondays
As you may have heard, the Virginia Literacy Act requires Elementary Teachers (classroom, special education, and ESOL) to complete approximately 27 hours of training focused on the Science of Reading and evidence-based literacy during the 2024-2025 school year.
As a result, Fairfax County Public Schools has planned seven early release Mondays starting in September. Please note the dates and times for your calendars listed below.
Woodley Hills will dismiss at 12:05 PM on the following days:
- September 16
- October 21
- November 18
- February 10
- March 10
- April 21
- May 12
Please visit FCPS' webpage for detailed information about early release Mondays.
Make sure your cell phone numbers are listed in the parent/guardian contact information section on the emergency care information form for each of your children. Parents and guardians can view and update emergency contact information online using weCare@school.
Text messages will be sent in the event of emergencies, delays or school closings, if buses are running more than 30 minutes late, if your student missed the morning attendance deadline, and for other important reminders.
Standard message and data charges may apply for text messages depending on your cell phone service plan. More about text messages is available online.

Back-to-School Military Fair |
While summer is in full swing, it is never too early to start preparing for the upcoming school year!
Blue Star Families and Fairfax County Public Schools invite you to join our Back-to-School Military Fair on Saturday August 10, 2024 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m in the cafeteria at West Springfield High School. FCPS and community resources will be available to families and school supplies will be provided for students in grades 7-12. Please note there is a limited amount of supplies.
This opportunity is open to Active Duty, National Guard, Reserve, and Veteran families with students grades 7-12. Parents and students must attend the event in person to receive the school supplies. Please visit Blue Star Families to register. Registration for the event closes at 5 p.m., on August 5, 2024.
To connect with FCPS military resources, please email militaryfamilies@fcps.edu.
To view or print your student’s supply list by grade level, please visit our website at the link below. "Back to school Supply Lists"
Attending kindergarten provides children with an opportunity to learn and practice the essential social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives. Eligible children can also be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps us plan so that we have the teachers and resources needed on the first day of school.
Prepare for registration by gathering documents and completing forms. We are happy to support families with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For more information in other languages, visit FCPS’ Kindergarten Registration webpage.
Please contact our registrar, Sandra Guzman at sguzman@fcps.edu or
call 703-799-2000 to make an appointment.
