We are thrilled to share some updates with you about our assistant principal hiring process. We have completed the hiring process for both assistant principal positions. The first assistant principal we can officially announce is Mrs. Sarah Buchanan.
Sarah Buchanan was born and raised in Connecticut. After graduating from Providence College with a degree in elementary and special education, she earned a Master of Educational Leadership and Policy from Florida State University.
Sarah started her career in education over 20 years ago. It began in New Haven, Connecticut as a middle school special education teacher and youth basketball and softball coach at The Children’s Center. She continued her career in New York and Prince William County (VA) as a 3rd grade bilingual teacher and K-5 special education inclusion teacher. She brought her career to Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties (FL) where she continued to serve as a elementary special education teacher. Upon moving back to Virginia in 2012, Sarah’s special education career in FCPS began at Bucknell Elementary and continued to Mount Eagle Elementary. In 2015, she joined the Fort Belvoir Elementary community as a Special Education Continuum Coach. In this role, Sarah focused her work around co-teaching and inclusion in the area of mathematics. In addition to her time at Fort Belvoir, Sarah served most recently in the role of Elementary Math Coach at Weyanoke Elementary. On Friday, August 2, 2024, Sarah will begin in the role of Assisant Principal at Timber Lane Elementary.
Sarah enjoys spending time with her husband Jerry and their two children, Charlotte and Jeremiah. They love to spend time outdoors, listen to live music and exploring all seasonal events the DMV area has to offer! Sarah loves to learn how to complete small house projects and work on her garden. Sarah is excited to join Timber Lane and continue to foster a community of empowered lifelong learners and critical thinkers! Go Tigers!
