CORRECTED TIMES: Building Scavenger Hunt, Aug 1st and 6th
We are excited to welcome our Kings Park lions and families back with our annual Scavenger hunt. Students and families are invited to come to Kings Park during the listed times and self-explore Kings Park ES both inside and out. *this event is self paced and repeated to allow for schedule options.
- August 1st Building Scavenger Hunt 6-6:30 pm
- August 6th Building Scavenger Hunt 9-9:30 am
KPES Welcome Walk - 2024-25 School Year
Kings Park staff will be offering a Welcome Walk for all families again this year. The Welcome Walk is an informal time for you to meet your child's teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. Your child's teacher and a KPES staff buddy will come to your home for a brief 3-5 minute doorstep visit. This year's welcome walk will be held on Tuesday, August 13th from 1:00pm and 4:00pm. To participate you will need to be home during this time frame. If you are not going to be home at this date/time frame OR would prefer to meet the teacher virtually, please indicate that in this survey and you child's teacher will contact you to schedule a virtual meet and greet.
Please complete the survey to indicate your preference by August 9, 2024 at 1pm. To support the management and preplanning necessary for this event, please note that if no survey is submitted for a student, the virtual option will be assumed and scheduled.
PLEASE NOTE: In case of any weather warnings, the welcome walk visits will shift to virtual for the safety of staff and families.
Open House, Thursday, August 15th 1:00pm-2:00pm
Open House is a time for students and families to informally meet their teacher and to explore the classroom. Staff members will be on hand to give extra assistance during the open house to help you find your child’s classroom. We hope to see you there!
PTA Popsicles on the Playground, Sunday, August 18th
This year we are continuing our popsicles on the playground for grades K-3 students at Kings Park. This is a yearly PTA tradition for our families to mingle, meet one another and have additional play time before the beginning of the year.
- Kindergarten: 2:00pm- 2:30pm
- 1st Grade-3rd Grade: 2:30pm - 3:00pm
First Day of School, Monday, August 19th
We are excited to welcome our lions on Monday, August 19th. Doors open at 8:30am. School begins at 8:40am and dismissal begins at 3:20pm. During the first week of school, parents may walk students to their classroom door.
Our tradition of the Parent Boo Hoo/Wahoo! Breakfast will continue in the cafeteria immediately following student drop off on the first day of school. Kindergarten through Third Grade parents please join us for this informal gathering in the cafeteria for doughnuts, coffee and juice with Mrs. Lin, Mrs. Donahue, and Mrs. Kaplan.
Early Release Mondays
We wanted to provide a reminder and follow up to the FCPS communication that was sent in June regarding seven days this year with three hour early release Mondays for elementary students in the 24-25 year. Additional information can be found on the FCPS Early Release Mondays webpage. If you have immediate questions, please email ESPlanning@fcps.edu.
Kings Park ES will have a three hour early release (dismissal 12:30pm) on the following dates:

This time will be utilized for teacher planning time to support students, complete required professional development for the new Virginia Literacy Act, new reading and math standards and other initiatives.
