  General Information
Our Voices, Our Future: Multilingual Learners Summit
All multilingual learners and their families are invited to attend a summit on Thursday, August 8, 2024 from 5-8:30 p.m. at Annandale High School. The summit will be primarily geared for secondary multilingual learners, but all are welcome to attend. The goal of the summit is to foster an environment of empowerment where multilingual students and their families can establish meaningful connections, engage in active listening, and openly share their experiences, cultivating mutual support and a deeper understanding of educational pathways within FCPS.
This event will begin with a table fair showcasing many opportunities available within FCPS and the wider community that support paths to graduation and future careers for students. Additionally, a keynote will be presented by Dr. Jose Luis Zelaya who will share a message about the power of community and resilience. A student panel will dialogue with Dr. Zelaya following the keynote.
Refreshments and light food will be served. Language and childcare services will be available. All secondary level multilingual learners have been invited centrally from FCPS via email. Registration is open for students, families, or staff planning to attend.
Summer Office Hours
During the summer, our main office will be open for phone calls and walk-ins from 8am-12pm. After that time, it will be by appointment only. Appointments are always recommended to be sure we have someone in the building who can best assist you with your request. Beginning the week of August 5 we will be available 8am-3pm. We will resume our regular office hours of 7:30am-4:00pm on Monday, August 12, 2024.
Back to School Information
All back to school information will be posted to our website by early August. Once information becomes available, we will email the community making you aware that it has been posted. We anticipate it will go out by the end of the week.
Summer Enrichment Opportunities
While we do not require summer assignments, we do have some optional summer enrichment opportunities.
1) Read: Any amount of self-selected reading over the summer can benefit students. We encourage families to consider participating in the Fairfax County Public Library Reading Challenges. More information can be found here.
2) Mathematics Independent Learning Options: A variety of independent math opportunities for families can be found on the FCPS website.
3) Schoolhouse: Students may choose to access Schoolhouse, a free online, peer-to-peer tutoring service, founded by Sal Khan of Khan Academy. FCPS made the discontinue the contract with Tutor.com effective June 30 due to low usage districtwide. Varsity Tutors will be providing online tutoring during the 2024-2025 school year at no cost to families and no cost to the school division. More information on this service is forthcoming.
Food and Nutrition Services - Transfers and Refunds
We encourage families to log-in to MySchoolBucks and check their student's meal account balance. Please pay any outstanding balances if you have any. If you are interested in transferring funds between your students' accounts, or if you would like to request a transfer, please visit this site. Unfortunately, Oakton HS is not able to process these requests locally. Once you are on the site, scroll down to the heading "Transfer and Refund Requests."

🩹 Required Immunizations for Rising 12th Graders
Immunizations are required for all students entering the 12th grade this fall. Visit the FCPS immunization webpage to learn about the required vaccines. Caregivers should ask their private healthcare provider or the health department to review their student's immunization record to ensure that their student has received these required immunizations.
It is important to schedule immunizations early in the summer, as seventh grade students must submit documentation of the Tdap and Meningococcal vaccines before they begin school in August. Twelfth grade students must submit documentation of the Meningococcal vaccine.
Get more information on all student immunization requirements.
2024-2025 - National Honor Society Applications

Student Insurance
During the school day, a student may have an accident that results in injury. There is a common misconception that FCPS (Fairfax County Public Schools) is financially responsible for medical bills resulting from such injuries. However, this is not the case.
Students who participate in sports are required to have health insurance. FCPS does not provide medical insurance for students, but parents can purchase low-cost Voluntary Student Insurance through K & K Insurance Group.
This student accident insurance program offers an affordable way for parents to cover medical or dental expenses resulting from their child's accident. For those who already have medical or dental insurance, this additional coverage can help with deductibles, limitations, and exclusions. For those without medical insurance, these accident policies provide primary coverage.
Please read the information on K&K Student Accident Insurance found here, to determine if this coverage would be beneficial for your child.
