2024-25 Try-Out Information
Season Start Dates:
Fall Sports: Try-outs begin Monday, August 5, 2024 (Except Dance, it was 07/15)
Cheerleading, Golf, Field Hockey, Football, Boys/Girls Volleyball, Cross Country
Winter Sports: Try-outs begin Monday, November 11, 2024
- Boys/Girls Basketball, Girls Gymnastics, Boys/Girls Indoor Track, Boys/Girls Swim & Dive, Wrestling
Spring Sports: Monday, February 24, 2025
- Baseball, Boys/Girls Lacrosse, Boys/Girls Outdoor Track, Boys/Girls Soccer, Softball, Boys/Girls Tennis

Each athlete MUST complete the 2 items below prior to any off-season workout (green-day) or try-outs:

VHSL physical is required for participation. It must be dated after May 1, 2024. The VHSL Physical Form can be found HERE. Please verify that the insurance information is included, and all parent/student signatures are on the form. Please turn in your completed Physical form to the Activities Office (Room #J100) or scan and email it to Ms. Petruzzi ltpetruzzi@fcps.edu
- The deadline to turn things in for participation on August 5th is 4pm on FRIDAY, AUGUST 2nd. Anything turned in after that will be processed for an August 6th start date. (For winter and spring sports, it’ll be the Friday before your 1st day of tryouts).
- Physicals forms can be done at any Doctor Office, MinuteClinic (CVS) or CareNow Urgent Care
Student/Athletes that do not have health insurance through their parents, can purchase Student Accident Insurance through the School by using this link K&K Insurance:
- Families & student-athletes must complete the online Athletic Registration each school year after May 1st for the upcoming school year. The information on the registration must be updated each year for the student-athlete to be eligible. Please update any emergency contact information, complete the concussion education, and check the sport(s) for which they wish to try-out.

Herndon High School Sports Hall of Fame
The Herndon High School Sports Hall of Fame is back up and accepting nominations!
In order to be considered for the Herndon Athletic Hall of Fame an application must be submitted. If you know of somebody you wish to be considered, please have them fill out this form or you can fill it out on their behalf. It is important that you provide their contact information and as much information as possible regarding their athletic accomplishments in high school, college, and professional athletics as well as any civic or professional awards they may have received.
Eligibility criteria:
- A former Herndon coach or athletic support person who has retired
- A Herndon athlete that graduated at least 10 years ago
- A nominee must receive 70% of the HOF Committee's votes to gain election
- A nominee's form will remain active for 5 years (if they don't get voted in).
- After 5 years, another form will have to be submitted
