Thank you to everyone who came out on a hot and humid day to enjoy ice cream! It was wonderful to see families meeting each other, friends reuniting, and our community sharing a fun summer moment together.
We are both excited and saddened to share that our own Christine McMillan has been offered and accepted a promotion to become the Executive Administrative Assistant in the Office of School Improvement and Supports. Her last day with us at Navy will be July 31st.
Christine joined the Navy family as our Administrative Assistant in 2020. She played a pivotal role in ensuring the safe return of our children and faculty/staff members during the incredibly challenging times of COVID-19. Christine also played a crucial role in my transition to Navy last year. Her energy, creativity, and expertise in multi-tasking and problem-solving have been invaluable. Plus, she gives great car advice!
This promotion presents Christine with an amazing opportunity to expand her talents and experience in a new capacity. While we will miss her greatly, we are thrilled for her and her new journey. Please join us in congratulating Christine on this incredible promotion and wishing her much success in her future endeavors!
Last fall teachers and parents were asked for feedback about Open House and Back to School Night. The feedback was overwhelmingly in favor of going back to the format Navy used in the past, so that is what we will do.
This year's Open House for grades 1-6 will be combined with our Back-to-School Presentation. The events will be split over two days, August 15th for grade 1 (12:30 PM), grade 2 (10:30 AM), and grade 3 (2:30 PM), and August 16th for grade 4 (11:00 AM), grade 5 (9:00 AM), and grade 6 (1:00 PM).
The Kindergarten Open House will be on August 15th at 8:30 AM and the Back to School Presentation will be on September 10th at 6:00 PM.

School safety is a priority at Navy. In May, we invited the FCPS Office of Safety and Security (OSS) to survey our campus. They were surprised to find that, for a school of our size, we only had one external security camera.
I am pleased to announce that OSS will be installing additional external cameras later this school year. While the exact installation date has not been set, I will keep you informed on their progress.
