Join us for Cav Kickoff on Friday, August 16th 9am-11am

1. Message from Mr. Greata

Good afternoon Wonderful Woodson Families,

I hope you are all enjoying a wonderful and restful summer! We are looking forward to welcoming back our teachers and our students and we are anticipating a stellar school year.

As we draw nearer to the start of school, please be on the lookout for important communications. In addition to resuming the Woodson Weekly’s Friday publication, we will also be sending out some targeted eNotifies.  I am proud of the plans and goals we have for the 2024-2025 school year and I look forward to sharing our direction for the school year. Please continue to check out the weekly!

We have had a new addition to our leadership team. I am delighted to announce the appointment of our new assistant principal, Michelle Case. Mrs. Case brings with her 20 years of dedicated service in Fairfax County Public Schools, both as a teacher and administrator.

Mrs. Case began her career as a social studies teacher at Mount Vernon High School before transitioning to administrative roles at West Potomac High School and Kilmer Middle School. Most recently, she served as the director of student services and interim principal at Franklin Middle School.

Outside of school, Mrs. Case is a proud mom of a 7th grader at Rocky Run Middle School and a 4th grader at Greenbriar West Elementary School. She also has two step-sons, including a 4th grader and 2nd grader. She spends most weekends on the soccer field supporting her boys and coaching her daughter’s field hockey team. Michelle loves traveling with her husband, spoiling their two Labrador Retrievers, cheering on Penn State football, and enjoying Caps hockey.

We are excited to welcome Michelle to our school community and look forward to the positive impact she will have on our students, staff, and families.

Stay cool and have a great weekend!

Warm regards,

Kevin Greata
Principal

10. Immunization Requirements for Rising Seniors

Immunizations are required for all students entering 7th and 12th grades this fall. Visit FCPS’ immunization webpage to learn about the required vaccines.

Caregivers should ask their private healthcare provider or the health department to review their student's immunization record to ensure that their student has received these required immunizations.

Twelfth grade students must submit documentation of the Meningococcal vaccine.

Get more information on all student immunization requirements.

Please contact Woodson Registrar, Darlene Sheppard at dmsheppard@fcps.edu if you have any questions.

11. 2024-2025 Intent Form

If you will not be attending Woodson HS this fall, please let Woodson Student Services know now by clicking here to complete the student intent form. If your student will be returning to Woodson next year, there is no need to complete or return the form.

If your student will not be returning to Woodson next year, please complete the fields at the top of the form (you may leave the Teacher Name field blank). Then check the box that says “No” when asked if the student will be returning to this school next year. Then check the appropriate box from the options listed regarding where your student will be attending school next year. Lastly, please sign and date the form. You may either scan and email the form to return it, or have your student bring it to school and drop it off in Student Services.

Student Services will make sure all transcripts and records are forwarded to your child’s new school so his/her file is complete.  If you have any questions, please contact Woodson registrar Darlene Sheppard at 703-503-4622 or dmsheppard@fcps.edu.

13. Dietary Accommodations Form

Starting School Year 2024-2025, the Office of Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) is implementing a standardized process for dietary accommodations to ensure the provision of safe and healthy food for our students. This form only needs to be filled out once while your student is enrolled at FCPS.

Please keep in mind the following information while reviewing the steps below:

  • FCPS does not provide meals containing pork.
  • We offer vegetarian and vegan options for lunch at every school, every day. If your student needs pork-free or vegetarian meals (which do not contain meat, poultry, or fish but may contain dairy and/or eggs), you do not need to fill out a Dietary Accommodation form, as we have those options available at all schools.
  • The form must be completed and submitted via email to dietary.forms.fns@fcps.edu and the Registered Dietitians will reach out to the parent.

Please note that while FCPS is not a peanut-free kitchen, our peanut butter products are individually wrapped to prevent cross-contamination.

14. Student Parking Passes

Parking passes for the 2024-25 school year will be available for purchase online only. Information on how to purchase parking passes will be released in mid-August.

For planning purposes, the cost for a full-year parking pass is $200.00.

Starting August 1, 2024, student consent forms currently on ParentVUE will be moved to the Parent Digital Consent System (PDC).

Families can log in to the PDC using their ParentVUE credentials to complete consent forms assigned to their child. School staff will have access to view consent status and edit consent with permission from the family.

  • SEL Screener Opt-Out

16. Varsity Tutors

After careful consideration, FCPS has discontinued our contract with Tutor.com effective June 30, in conjunction with the end of ESSER funding for school districts nationwide. While feedback about Tutor.com has been positive overall, usage among students across FCPS has not been high enough to justify the cost to FCPS. Beginning in the 2024-25 school year, Varsity Tutors will be providing online tutoring services to FCPS students at no cost to families and no cost to the school division. More information about Varsity Tutors will be forthcoming. In the interim, these talking points may be helpful. As an alternative to Varsity Tutors, students may choose to access Schoolhouse, a free online, peer-to-peer tutoring service, founded by Sal Khan of Khan Academy. In addition to online tutoring options, FCPS has implemented a high impact tutoring program offered to identified students in grades 3-8 funded by the All in Virginia tutoring initiative, at no cost to the division.

You can learn more on FCPS’ Varsity Tutors webpage or Varsity Tutor’s website
