We have been working on staffing all summer as there were several unexpected changes since June. We were sad to lose Mrs. Yaman and Mrs. Rowader, who both moved out of state after the end of school. As of today, we have been able to fill all of our teacher and instructional assistant positions to start the school year.
We are still working to hire Monitors for the 2024-25 school year. Monitors are paid hourly at a rate of $17.88.

During spring of 2024 the school community was surveyed to gather information to inform continued growth as a school. Our school results can be found here. |
Wakefield Forest ES has been selected to participate in a pilot for how Fairfax County Public Schools will teacher the Human Growth and Development unit of Family Life Education (FLE) in 5th and 6th grades. Additional information will be sent home to 5th and 6th grade families about the pilot. The pilot will include options for students to engage in the instruction in gender combined classes or classes gender separate classes. We will have an information session to share additional information.
As part of our Equitable Access to Literacy plan, FCPS is changing the way we teach reading to our K-6 students! Starting this school year, we will have a new curriculum for Language Arts which will help our students become better readers. Because of this new curriculum, all of our FCPS teachers who help our students learn how to read will have the same high-quality materials and lesson plans. When a student can read well, they do better in all of their classes and are more likely to graduate high school.
During the 2024-25 school year, Wakefield Forest will be working to develop a new mission and vision. As a part of this work, we will be reaching out to families for input. Our goal is to include feedback from our families, students and staff to develop our focus for the next several years.
If you have questions about this process, email Principal Prindle at sbprindle@fcps.edu.

FCPS submitted an intent to use our division’s nationally normed screener/growth assessments in place of the Virginia Growth Assessment (VGA) in grade 3-8 reading and math. We are pleased to share that VDOE has accepted this decision for FCPS to not use VGA in 2024-25, as permitted under 2024 Virginia General Assembly legislation. This will eliminate four state assessments for students in grades 3-6 this year.
The alternative growth assessments that will be used this year are as follows.
-
Reading Gr. 3-8 (ES/MS) - iReady Reading
-
Math Gr. 3-6 (ES) - iReady Math
-
Math Gr. 6-8 (MS) - MAP Growth Math
