Edison High School Community Message from Principal Burke
Dear Edison High School Community,
I hope you are all enjoying a restful summer break. As we prepare for the upcoming school year, I wanted to share a few important updates and reminders with you.
Senior Student Parking Form I'm excited to announce that the senior student parking form will go live on Friday Aug 2 at noon. This form is exclusively for seniors, and applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Please ensure you fill out the form promptly if you are interested in securing a parking spot for the school year. An email will go out to all senior parents and students with the link to the form on August 1st.
Fall Sports Tryouts For those of you interested in participating in fall sports, I encourage you to try out. Tryouts will begin on August 5th. This is a fantastic opportunity to get involved, stay active, and represent Edison High School with pride.
Upcoming Events:
New Student Orientation: On August 15th, we will be holding our new student orientation starting at 8:30 AM. Students will be picked up from their respective feeder elementary schools. The buses pick-up times will be sent out closer to the event.
Upperclassmen (10-12) Open House: On August 15th, from 11:00 am – 12:30pm. Students can walk their schedules and meet their teachers.
New Parent Orientation: On August 15th at 6:30 PM, we will host an orientation for new parents. This will be an excellent opportunity to get acquainted with our school and learn about what to expect in the upcoming year.
Thank you to those parents who joined me last Thursday for my parent coffee.
I hope you continue to enjoy your summer break, and I can't wait to see everyone back at Edison High School on August 19th. Let's make this school year our best one yet!

New and 9th Grade Parent Orientation
Parents of our 9th graders and students new to Edison are invited to join us for a parent orientation on Thursday, August 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the Edison auditorium. The evening will feature topics such as understanding your student’s schedule, the International Baccalaureate Program, student activities and athletics, and parent involvement. We look forward to seeing you!
Edison Band Camp
Interested in joining the Edison Marching Eagles in the Band or Color Guard?? EDISON BAND CAMP begins July 29-Aug 9 (Mon-Fri). Student Schedules
Beginning Thursday, August 15th at 6:00a.m. all students and parents will have access to class schedules in SIS StudentVUE and ParentVUE. SIS (Student Information System) is the application to see/submit attendance, class performance, and demographic data.
New Epinephrine Authorization Form
The Asthma Authorization form SS/SE-65 and Epinephrine Authorization SS/SE-64 forms were recently updated for the 2024-2025 school year. Please use these new forms. Note: If you already have your completed forms for the upcoming school year using the old forms, they will be accepted.
Dietary Accommodations Form
Starting School Year 2024-2025, the Office of Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) is implementing a standardized process for dietary accommodations to ensure the provision of safe and healthy food for our students. This form only needs to be filled out once while your student is enrolled at FCPS.
Please keep in mind the following information while reviewing the steps below:
- FCPS does not provide meals containing pork.
- We offer vegetarian and vegan options for lunch at every school, every day. If your student needs pork-free or vegetarian meals (which do not contain meat, poultry, or fish but may contain dairy and/or eggs), you do not need to fill out a Dietary Accommodation form, as we have those options available at all schools.
- The form must be completed and submitted via email to dietary.forms.fns@fcps.edu and the Registered Dietitians will reach out to the parent.
Please note that while FCPS is not a peanut-free kitchen, our peanut butter products are individually wrapped to prevent cross-contamination.
Student Consent Forms
Starting August 1, 2024, student consent forms currently on ParentVUE will be moved to the Parent Digital Consent System (PDC).
Families can log in to the PDC using their ParentVUE credentials to complete consent forms assigned to their child. School staff will have access to view consent status and edit consent with permission from the family.
Forms available in the PDC starting in the 2024-2025 school year include:
- School Counseling Opt-Out
- Digital Resources Consent
- SEL Screener Opt-Out
- Consent for Release of Student Records in Support of Postsecondary Applications
- Denial of Access to Military Recruiters
- Family Life Education Opt-Out
- SOL Retest Permission
- Hazel Health
- BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Opt-Out
- SOS Screener Opt-Out
- Objection to Release of Information to Outside Organizations
- Objection to Release of Directory Information to the Public
As FCPS updates the PDC, more district-wide forms will be added.

Varsity Tutors
After careful consideration, FCPS has discontinued our contract with Tutor.com effective June 30, in conjunction with the end of ESSER funding for school districts nationwide. While feedback about Tutor.com has been positive overall, usage among students across FCPS has not been high enough to justify the cost to FCPS. Beginning in the 2024-25 school year, Varsity Tutors will be providing online tutoring services to FCPS students at no cost to families and no cost to the school division. More information about Varsity Tutors will be forthcoming. In the interim, these talking points may be helpful. As an alternative to Varsity Tutors, students may choose to access Schoolhouse, a free online, peer-to-peer tutoring service, founded by Sal Khan of Khan Academy. In addition to online tutoring options, FCPS has implemented a high impact tutoring program offered to identified students in grades 3-8 funded by the All in Virginia tutoring initiative, at no cost to the division.
