PEATC is pleased to announce the 2024 Parent and Youth Empowerment (PYE) Summit on Saturday, September 7, 2024, for Virginia students with disabilities (ages 14-22) and their parents! Accepted participants will be empowered to understand and advocate for their child's secondary school learning and postsecondary outcomes from topic experts, while youth will increase their knowledge to be effective self-advocates through related activities.

  • Metro Travel Training - Friday, August 2, 2024 & Friday, August 16, 2024 @ 10:00a.m. at Dunn Loring Metro Station - Interested in travel training? Come join our Tech for Independent Living (TFIL) team on a metro trip! These in-person travel training events are FREE to attend, but pre-registration is required.   • Trust Talk Tuesday - Tuesday, August 6, 2024 @ 10:00am on Zoom -

  • Transition Lunch & Learn - Wednesday, August 7, 2024 @ 12:00am on Zoom - Planning for the transition from school to adult services can be an overwhelming task. Once your child exits the school system, adult services are based on eligibility criteria and funding availability. These twice-monthly, small group sessions are an opportunity to discuss the challenges and discover resources the help in creating a plan for the future.   • *Mark Your Calendar* ARC of Northern VA 2024 Transition Series The 2024 Transition Series will be held  virtually between September 16-October 26 with a tentative in-person half day session on October 26th. Webinar dates and times are still being finalized. Topics will include:
    • Week 1:  Financing the Future:  Medicaid Waivers, Special Needs Trusts, SSI and SSDI, ABLENow
    • Week 2: Building a Meaningful Life:  Employment & Day Support Provider Panel, Parent & Self-Advocate Panel, DARS, Woodrow Wilson Workforce Center
    • Week 3:  Transitioning to Adulthood: Supported Decision Making, Legal Authority Options, Building Self-Determination, Sexual Health & Wellness
    • Week 4:  Living in the Community:  Housing Options, Transportation Options
    • Week 5:  Thinking about Post-Secondary Options:  College Options and Supports
