We are thrilled to welcome our kindergarteners and new families tomorrow, July 30th, for an exciting scavenger hunt. It’s going to be a fantastic way to get to know each other and kickstart our Union Mill community!
We’re counting down the days and getting super excited to welcome all our students and families back in just three weeks!

2024 - 2025 School Calendar
The 2024 - 2025 FCPS School Year Calendar can be accessed here. We encourage families to review the calendar when considering trips or preplanned absences.
Open House and Back to School Nights
Open House will be held on Friday, August 16th from 9:00 - 10:20 am. This will be an opportunity for students and families to come and meet their teacher, see their classroom and drop off any school supplies.
Back to School Night will be held on August 26th and August 27th. It is an opportunity for families to meet the teacher to learn about expectations, routines, procedures and curriculum for the year.

Kindergarten and New Student Scavenger Hunt
We are delighted to welcome our newest bears to Union Mill. All kindergarteners and students new to Union Mill may come with their families to participate in an informal scavenger hunt on either or both of the following days.
Early Release Mondays
We wanted to provide a reminder and follow up to the FCPS communication that was sent in June regarding seven three hour early release Mondays for elementary students in the 24-25 year. Union Mill will release at 12:30 pm on the below dates.
- September 23
- October 28
- November 25
- February 24
- March 17
- April 28
- May 19
This time will be utilized for teacher planning time to support students, complete required professional development for the new Virginia Literacy Act, new reading and math standards and other initiatives.

Summer Math Support
If you are looking for ways to support your student’s mathematical learning, FCPS has created a page with a variety of optional resources. You can view them at the link here. ST Math will continue to be available over the summer and ST Math family resources are also linked on the FCPS page.
Fairfax County Public Library Summer Reading Program
Fairfax County Public Libraries offer a wide variety of programs and opportunities over the summer. Here is the link for more information if you are interested in any of the opportunities or to register your child.
Student Monitor Advertisement
We are excited to announce that we are looking for a dedicated monitor for the 2024-2025 school year. This rewarding position offers a unique opportunity to spend quality time with our students and support their needs here at Union Mill. If you love interacting with children and want to make a positive impact in our school community, we would love to hear from you! Hours and days can be flexible based upon your availability.
