🌟 FCPS 2024-2025 Calendar (First day of School is Monday, August 19)
Dear Island Creek Families,
We are thrilled to share that Ms. Cash-Pinckney joined us this week as our second assistant principal. The Admin Team has been busy preparing for the new school year and next week we will attend the Region 3 Kickoff Meeting and FCPS Kickoff Meeting.
The new flooring in the front office looks beautiful and next week the furniture will be moved back into the front offices. Ms. Baxter and I, along with her younger daughter and my oldest son, spent a Sunday afternoon painting our offices.
We are excited to share that Ms. Samantha Jacobson will be changing positions from 1st Grade Teacher to STEAM Teacher (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). Ms. Jacobson and Ms. Mehrtash (SBTS) have already started planning STEAM experiences for our Crocs!
We hope our students, families, and staff have a wonderful summer filled with books, joy, and fun in the sun.

As you may have heard, a requirement for Elementary Teachers (classroom, special education, and ESOL) from the Virginia Literacy Act includes approximately 27 hours of asynchronous training focused on the Science of Reading and evidenced-based literacy during the 2024-2025 school year. As a result, Fairfax County Public Schools has planned for 7 early release Mondays starting in September.
Please note the dates and times for your calendars listed below. These dates only apply to elementary school-age students.
Island Creek Elementary will release school- age students at 12:20 pm on the following days:
- September 16
- October 21
- November 18
- Februray 10
- March 10
- April 21
- May 12
FCPS has created a webpage to provide detailed information about the early release Mondays.
This summer, the FCPS Office of Intervention and Prevention Services is offering virtual Mental Wellness Consultations from Monday, June 24, through Friday, August 2. Any FCPS parent or secondary student will have an opportunity to schedule a 45-minute consultation with a school psychologist or school social worker by phone or videoconference.
Parents of students in any grade level can request a consultation to receive guidance on how to support their child’s social, emotional, and academic success. Information about community resources will also be provided.
