The end of the school year is a time for reflection and celebration. We celebrate our many achievements and we also prepare to say goodbye to some valued members of our teaching and support staff who have made a significant impact on our school. For their service, I extend my deepest gratitude. We will miss their expertise, positive energy, and the unique contributions they brought to Navy.

-
Changing levels within FCPS: Meghan Bailey (high school), Sean Cummiskey (high school), Jennifer Batson (middle school), Connie Lee (middle school)
-
Changing positions within FCPS: Shannon Byrnes (AAP), Katherine Kelly (art), and Shannon Floyd (instructional coach),
-
Transferring within FCPS: Christina DePorter, Lorraine Dyer, Nicole Fish, Barbara Louie, Kathleen Trench, Mahjuba Wahab, Samantha Weatherford, and Amy Weinberg
While change can be a time of uncertainty, it also brings new opportunities. Some of you have expressed concerns about these vacancies, and I want to assure you that we are actively engaged in the recruitment process. We are focused on finding highly qualified and passionate educators to join our team. Our 69 returning staff members, who understand our school culture, curriculum, and the unique needs of our students, play a vital role in ensuring a smooth transition. Their experience has been invaluable in the selection and interview process. I am collaborating closely with the FCPS Human Resources Department and the Region 1 Office to ensure we recruit and hire the very best personnel for our school. Significant progress to date has been made in completing this task and I will update you over the summer as more progress is made and the task is accomplished.
I am confident that the new faces joining our team will uphold the high standards of excellence we have established at Navy. We are committed to providing a strong and supportive learning environment for all students, and I look forward to welcoming our new staff members next year.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. I hope everyone has a fantastic summer break filled with fun, laughter, (some reading!), and memorable experiences. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for our returning students in the 2024-2025 school year!
Sincerely,
Amos O. Simms-Smith
