Principal's Message

Greetings Tiger Families!

With the 2023-24 school year now in the books, I would like to share a note of gratitude to all our Tiger families, students and staff. Like every school year, this one was filled with great successes, unique experiences, some bumps in the road, and many opportunities for reflection and growth. I have appreciated the generosity, kindness, and collaboration shown by our entire learning community in my first year here at Twain. I look forward to hearing about what our rising 9th graders go on to do next year at the next stop in their educational journey and am excited for our rising 8th graders to move into the role of leaders within our building. When we welcome our new 7th graders in August from Bush Hill, Cameron, Clermont, Franconia, Mount Eagle, Lane, Springfield Estates, Rose Hill and more we will quickly help them transition into Twain Tigers and embrace them as our newest members of Team Twain!

Although we will take a break from the every Friday newsletter until August, we will send out pertinent updates or reminders throughout the summer.

Have a restful and enjoyable summer, Tigers.

Sincerely,

Matt

PTA Update

8th Grade Dance

On June 7th, the PTA hosted the 8th Grade Dance.  The theme was The Pacific Voyage.  Approximately 275 students attended this specular event.  Mouths dropped as the students entered the dance floor and saw the cafeteria transformed into a tropical paradise!  Many thanks to the 8th Grade Dance Committee- Jessica, Michelle, Katy, Denisse, Lea Anne, Linda, and Stefani for their amazing support in making this a phenomenal event for our 8th graders.  A HUGE shout out to the ALL of the volunteers who stepped up and helped with ticket sales, wristbands, set-up, chaperoning, and clean-up.  We couldn’t have pulled it off without you.

The PTA would also like to thank, Costco and Wegmans for their generous donation of gift cards that went towards purchasing refreshments for the dance.  A special thank you to Denisse Valenzuela for donating all the water. Thank you also to Carpet Binding and Fringing in Lorton and Rick’s Flooring in Alexandria for donating the carpet rolls for the palm trees.

Check out Twain MS on social media for more photos of the dance.

8th Grade Field Day/Cookout

The last day of school, June 12th,  was the 8th Grade Field day and Cookout.  It was a great way for both the students and staff members to celebrate the end of a great school year.  Thank you to the many parent that donated food, supplies, and volunteer hours to the 8th Grade Cookout! Your generous donations of chips, cookies, paper towels, charcoal, plates, ketchup/mustard, roasting pans, water, turkey hot dogs, buns, and more were very much appreciated.  This fun tradition continues to be a highlight of the 8th grade year.
