Churchill Chatter - Issue 19, June 21, 2024

Dear Churchill Road Families,

What an amazing school year we have just completed! It was a so much fun to see our students participate in the many end of year activities – Strings and Chorus concerts, Field Day, Ancient Civilizations Day, Reading Rodeo and the 6th grade party and promotion ceremony.  As we finish out the year, we would like to thank all of you for your continued partnership and support.  We could not do what we do without you.

Earlier this afternoon you should have received a message about FCPS’ planned early release Mondays for the 2024-2025 school year.

This summer will be a quiet, but busy, preparation for the new school year. Many of our staff members are scheduled to attend training on the new language arts curriculum and may also be working at summer learning programs across the county.

We hope our staff, students and families will take time this summer to relax, go on adventures, read new books and fill their buckets in many ways. We look forward to welcoming everyone back next fall..

Have a wonderful summer!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Pierson-Barr and Ms. Niccolls

sand

A Cup of Sand for Any and All Beaches!

Did you know that sand looks different on every beach across the United States and around the world?  I’ve read that you can find sand in most of the colors of the rainbow.  So cool! (Read an article - click HERE!

Would you bring back 1 to 2 cups of sand from any beach you visit this summer? From Virginia Beach to India to Antarctica, we want to see all the different types of sand you find. 😊 Simply put the sand in a small clear Ziplock baggie. And attach a notecard telling; your name, the name of the beach, the state or country where you found it and bring in back in August.  We will plan to gather and display the sandbags during Back to School Night.

Happy Beach Walking!

Enjoying Our Canine Companions

frankie

Beginning this spring, we were fortunate to have visits from "Frankie" and "Pru".  Mrs. Jackson's class had a wonderful time meeting "Frankie" and reading with him.  We hope to see both our friends back next school year.

Did You Know...

Nauman Naeem MD from Psychology Today writes, “At any given moment there are hundreds of entities vying for our attention — whether they are people we are close to, workplace associates, email accounts, social media, popular culture, marketing and advertising, and global events.” This attention seeking is usually to fulfill someone else’s agenda. People fear being bored but in reality, it means nothing needs your attention in that moment. Here is the full article, The Beauty of Stillness
