Lancers-
We have made it to the last week of school! Last week I had the opportunity to attend our orchestra, band, and chorus concerts. The performances were outstanding, it is no surprise that they were all given a “Superior” rating on their recent trip to Hershey Park. I would like to thank our teachers for all they have done directing our performing arts programs. It also caused me to reflect on how much growth our students have shown from the start of the year, or greater still, since they were in 6th grade. The concerts are just one example of the development we have seen in our students this year. I am excited to welcome back our rising 8th graders next year, and to see the great things our rising 9th graders do as they move into high school.
I would also like to thank our PTA for organizing our 8th grade party! A huge thank you to our team that organized it. It was a great event last friday; a fun way to send off our 8th graders in style.
I want to thank your entire community for all they have done to make it a great school year.

CALENDAR EVENTS
FCPSOn laptop
If your student is enrolled in an FCPS-sponsored summer program, they should keep the device currently issued to them through the end of the summer program. They will then need to return the device to Longfellow when the program is finished (i.e., not at the end of the summer or the beginning of the next school year).
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Let's Finish the School Year Strong!

📈 SOL Scores Posted in SIS ParentVUE
Families can find Standards of Learning (SOL) reports for spring testing in the SIS ParentVUE Documents section on or before the last day of school. Log in to your ParentVUE account to access the following:
• For all students – the official SOL Score Report with overall and reporting category performance for all spring tests.
• For grade 3-8 students – the SOL Growth Parent Report shows performance over time for state reading and math tests completed this school year.
Visit the FCPS website for additional information about spring assessment reporting practices and timelines. Need help creating a SIS ParentVUE account? This video walks through the steps. Find out more about SIS ParentVUE.
Required Immunizations for Rising 7th and 12th Graders
Immunizations are required for all students entering 7th and 12th grades this fall. Visit the FCPS immunization webpage to learn about the required vaccines.
Caregivers should ask their private healthcare provider or the health department to review their student's immunization record to ensure that their student has received these required immunizations.
It is important to schedule immunizations early in the summer, as seventh-grade students must submit documentation of the Tdap and Meningococcal vaccines before they begin school in August. Twelfth-grade students must submit documentation of the Meningococcal vaccine.
Get more information on all student immunization requirements.
Don’t Forget to Check Your Student’s Lunch Balance!
It’s a busy time of year, and we know there are many priorities on families’ plates. As we approach the end of the school year, it is important to remember to check your students’ MySchoolBucks account and pay any remaining school meal balance.
Families that earn less than 185% of poverty level qualify for free and reduced-price meals. However, an application must be completed and submitted each school year to receive that benefit. The application for the 2024-25 school year will be available this summer.
If families have a current balance and think they may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals, please fill out the FRM application for the 2022-23 school year. Get more information about free and reduced-price lunch.
New SOL Growth Reports for Grade 3-8 Tests
Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) test results, along with other student data, help demonstrate in which subjects or topics students may need additional academic support. In order to help interpret SOL results for parents, the Virginia Department of Education has released new Standards of Learning Growth Parent Reports for families of students who took grade 3-8 SOL math and reading tests this spring.
The Growth Parent Report ties together scores from fall and winter Virginia Growth Assessments (VGA) with the student’s current spring SOL results to show their trend in academic progress this year.
Learn how to understand your student’s grade 3-8 SOL results and find resources to support their ongoing learning.

MHS Boot Camp - 7/8-10 & 7/22-24
MHS Boot Camp for Rising 9th grade and 10th grade students taking advanced coursework for the 2024-2025 academic year
Boot Camp is an interactive leadership conference where students discuss and practice the qualities required for success in college and in the corporate world. This program is targeted for students who are taking their first AP class. This event will focus on developing five attributes: Teamwork, Communication, Organization, Reading, and Problem Solving (T-CORPS). These skills are those that are most desired by Fortune 500 firms. This hands-on program will actively engage students in the development and use of these skills, while demonstrating their importance.
To go with the military boot camp theme, students will divide into platoons and compete in tasks that will allow them to build and demonstrate these skills. After each task, students will reflect upon their performance and discuss how they can improve.
Boot Camp has four goals: 1. Introduce students to the unique academic challenges of AP coursework. 2. Guide students in skill development with focus on teamwork, communication, organization, reading, and problem solving. 3. Discuss the practical application of these skills inside and outside the classroom. 4. Provide opportunities for students to develop a support network with their peers.
Please note: Only students enrolled in the 9th and 10th grade at McLean High School for the 2024 - 2025 school year are eligible for the MHS AP Boot Camp Program. Please complete the electronic form below to reserve a spot.
