FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK

Cherry Run

From the Principal's Desk:

Good afternoon families!!

This week's newsletter is going to focus on our celebrations from this past week!  We kicked off Monday with a celebration of international cultures through a poster project.  We had dozens and dozens of posters turned in to celebrate our wealth of cultures.  The afternoon was rounded out with a celebration of our former Cherry Run students as we conducted a "Grad Walk" for them around the school.  Tuesday was another amazing opportunity to showcase our diversity through an international culture parade.  Students, parents, and staff dressed in traditional outfits and conducted a parade around the school to the applause (and amazement) of our students and staff.

Wednesday afternoon presented an opportunity for us to have an assembly where students were treated to differing cultural dances.  We had a student play a 'harmonium' and sing a traditional song, we had the GMU Hispanic Dance community come and share a few dances.. including audience volunteers, and we had an Irish Dance Troupe show off their moves!  We concluded the week with our first annual International Cultural Fair.  We had over 25 countries/cultures present amazing information about their culture.  We had the opportunity to learn about the traditional foods, interesting facts, geography, music, and many even wore the traditional dress of their cultures.

It was amazing to see the way our community embraced all of these activities and came together in such a meaningful way.  I am SO proud to be a part of this great community.

I wanted to give a special shout out to all of the students and families who participate in our events, to the students and families who came to share in the excitement of learning about our diversity, and most importantly, to the amazing committee of volunteers that worked so hard to plan, schedule, and put together all of these amazing activities.

** NOTE: I am sorry if this loads slowly because of the pictures!!

Have a great weekend!!

Sincerely,

Mark Bibbee

Medication Pickup Process

Meds

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school. Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick up the medication on the last day of school and deliver the medication and completed forms to the summer learning site on the first day of the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s). If you have any questions, please contact your school health room aide, Mylene Crisostomo, mcrisostomo@fcps.edu or at 703-923-2810 9:30 am – 4:30 pm M-F, or your school public health nurse, Andrea Madayag @ asmadayag@fcps.edu

Thank you for your cooperation and have a good summer.
