Final NYC For This School Year!

Last Day of School

Celebrating The School Year!

As another school year draws to a close, we can't help but feel a surge of pride! This year wouldn't have been nearly as successful without the incredible partnership between our dedicated staff, our amazing students, and all of you, our supportive families.

We witnessed countless moments of growth and progress across our classrooms! Thank you for your involvement and collaboration! Please take a moment to celebrate the many achievements this year!

Now, it's time to rest and recharge during the well-deserved summer break. As we head into summer, we carry the joy of this past year and the excitement for what's to come. Thank you for your unwavering support throughout the year. With your continued partnership, we know next year will be even more extraordinary.

On behalf of the entire staff, we wish you and your family a fun-filled, relaxing summer!

Lees Corner Staff, The Next Chapter

Although bittersweet, some of our colleagues will have new opportunities next school year, and beyond. Let’s acknowledge their accomplishments and celebrate what’s next for our school family members:

Retiring from FCPS:

  • Jennifer Cowett is retiring after 27 years of teaching. Her entire teaching career has been spent in the autism program at Lees Corner. She has loved every one of her students and will miss teaching very much. She will also miss her team, especially her fabulous assistants, Debbie Legieza and Ashley Kappatos who have taught alongside her for so many years. Jennifer is looking forward to spending more time with her family and is happy to have some time to focus on her music, writing, and art.
  • Lynn Lull is retiring after 13 years at Lees Corner as a kindergarten IA, the last 9 years were with Jenn McGregor. Fun fact: her first group of kindergarten students are also leaving FCPS, as graduating seniors! The timing of retirement just seems right. She has 2 granddaughters to play with in Purcellville and an October wedding to plan for her middle daughter in Richmond. Life will include a lot of reading, walking, time with friends & family, home projects, and hopefully rest and healthy habits.

New and Exciting Opportunities:

  • Bobby Khaksari will be joining PWCS to teach Earth Science at Freedom HS
  • Jessica Cordoba will be moving back to Virginia Beach, teaching at Princess Anne Elementary as a Special Education IA.
  • Hanah Nam will be transitioning to her son’s base school to teach upper grade NCE at Poplar Tree Elementary.
  • Briana Gilchrist Odom will be taking over as the new assistant principal of Greenbriar West ES.
  • Anna Hines will be transitioning Groveton Elementary where she will work with students in the AAP program.
  • Meg Lawhorne will transition to a full time Novice Teacher Instructional Coach within  FCPS.
  • Brian Rothe will transition to Bull Run ES, as an enhanced autism teacher
  • Shaunda Fleming will be transitioning back to Early Childhood Education as the Regional Director of Virginia State for Cadence Education.
  • Emily Messier will be transitioning to Willow Springs Elementary School, as their full time music teacher
  • Cheryl Mendis is excited for the next chapter of her life in Japan. She will be an assistant English language teacher for grades K-9.
  • Jenn McGregor is super excited to jump into ESOL at Stone and Liberty Middle school.
  • Ms. Andrea Ramalheira and her family will be relocating to Tennessee!

We are also excited to welcome our newest LCES Colleagues:

  • Ms. Rachel Queen, Special Education Department Chairperson
  • Ms. Stephanie Baylor, Kindergarten Teacher
  • Ms. Michelle Malhas, First Grade Teacher
  • Ms. Melissa Green, Sixth Grade Teacher
  • Ms. Heba Nada, Primary NCE Teacher

Renovation

Lees Corner’s Renovation Starting Soon!

We’re so grateful that voters approved the bond referendums for the FCPS Capital Improvement Projects and Lees Corner’s renovation! We’ve been anticipating the start of construction, and we won’t have to wait much longer! This summer you’ll begin to see some changes. Here’s what we are expecting:

  • Three quads and four single modular units (temporary classrooms) will be arriving this summer and will be placed in the lower field.
  • The trailers behind the school used for band and art will be removed.
  • When students return to school in the fall, some grade levels and staff members will be in new places inside the school.
  • In August 2024, students in grades 4-6 will move into the modular units (quads)
  • Our specialized special education classes, will remain inside the building
  • As the work gets underway, we will share regular updates and with the Renovation Team, hold community meetings to update families.

This website contains the plans for Lees Corner’s renovation and is updated when new information is available.

School Supply Orders

The PTA is offering parents the convenient services of prepackaged supply kits. This service by The Write Stuff ensures your child or children have the school supplies they need next year without having to run to several different stores to find them. This year, the sales from the school supplies will benefit the PTA.

Each kit will contain exactly what is on your child’s supply list.

Supplies can be ordered using the link below

https://www.write-stuff.com/storefront/school/leescorner

Orders placed online by June 16, 2024 will be sent directly to Lees Corner. Orders can still be placed online until July 10, 2024 but will include a delivery fee and be sent to your home address.

If school supplies are ordered by June 16th and shipped to the school, the box will be delivered directly to your students’ classroom by the open house date.

If you have any questions, please contact LCES PTA at leescornerpta@outlook.com.
