Dear Sleepy Hollow Families,

As we wrap up another incredible school year, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the students, parents, and staff for their hard work, dedication, and support. It has been a year full of growth, learning, and memorable experiences. I would also like to send a special THANK YOU to all the PTA families, the PTA Board members and everyone who supported in all the memorable family events we experienced this school year. Our students will keep these memories forever.

Summer Tips

As we head into summer, we encourage all our students to continue learning and growing. Here are some tips for a safe and enjoyable summer:

  1. Stay Active: Participate in outdoor activities like biking, swimming, or playing sports to stay fit and healthy.

  3. Stay Safe: Remember to wear sunscreen, stay hydrated, and always be aware of your surroundings.

We wish all our families a safe, relaxing, and fun-filled summer. We look forward to seeing everyone back on August 19th, 2024 refreshed and ready for another fantastic school year.

Library News

Public library:  We had a great visit for all students by a librarian from the George Mason Regional Library.  He shared their summer reading program (found at https://research.fairfaxcounty.gov/reading-challenges/summer-reading) and gave some great book talks.  Keep reading over the summer and visit ANY of the community and regional branches of the public library for free interactive programs for kids along with free access to computers, newspapers, magazines, videos, and books!

Barnes & Noble:  Take a look at the flyer recently sent home to find out how your child can get a free book by participating in Barnes & Noble's summer program (English: https://dispatch.barnesandnoble.com/content/dam/ccr/bnstores/kids/misc/2024/KidsSummerReadingJournalEnglish_bn.com.pdf; Spanish: https://dispatch.barnesandnoble.com/content/dam/ccr/bnstores/kids/misc/2024/KidsSummerReadingJournalSpanish.pdf).  Books read for the public library challenge will also count for the BN program.  Listening to a book read aloud, audio books, books read on an e-reader, and physical books ALL count!  Books in any format count (Graphic novel, poetry, picture book, etc.) - all reading is valuable!

Book giveaway:  On Monday as part of Field Day, each student will get to select 2 gently-used books to keep!  Watch for these to come home and consider sharing them together with your child.

Returning school library books:  Thank you for encouraging your students to locate and return their library books!  We are aiming for 100% of checked-out books to be returned before 6/12; if you locate a library book over the summer, please hold onto it and return it in the fall.

Fun fact:  Our school library checked out a total of 24,701 books this school year!  Yay reading!!  Wow, our students love books, which warms our hearts!  Have a great summer of reading!
