Summer

Dear Cardinal Families,

As the school year draws to a close, we can't help but reflect on the incredible journey we've shared. This year has been filled with laughter, learning, and moments of immense pride.

Witnessing our young cardinals – our students – soar and take flight with their growing minds and skills has been truly inspiring. It wouldn't have been possible without a partnership that's as strong and supportive as the wings that carry them: our exceptional parents and guardians.

Together, we've fostered a learning environment that celebrates creativity, ignites a love for knowledge, and empowers our students to become confident and compassionate individuals.

As we head into summer break, let's celebrate the accomplishments of our young learners. Let them rest, recharge, and come back to school in the fall ready for new heights.

With this being our last newsletter of the 2023-2024 school year, we wish you all a safe and joyful summer. Until then, know that we are incredibly grateful for each and every one of you.

With warmest regards,

Warmly,

Allison Hoak, Principal

Jon Kemmerer, Assistant Principal

☀️Summer Office Hours

The CPES main office will be open this summer daily from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm.

📃Progress Reports

Final progress reports will go home on Wednesday, June 12th with students. For parents who chose to go paperless, grades will be viewable in ParentVUE on Thursday, June 13th. If your child is not in school on June 12th, you can come to the main office to pick up your child's progress report.

The Technology Team is ready for students to return their laptops for the summer. If your child brings their laptop home, please help remind them to return them to school with their chargers

If your child is participating in a summer FCPS academic program, their laptop will be delivered to the school, so they are available for your child’s first day there.

Lost

👚Lost and Found

Our lost and found is located near the restrooms in the lobby. Before the end of the year, please have your child check our Lost and Found for missing items. We have a variety of jackets, sweatshirts, water bottles, and hats. All items that are left at the end of the year will be donated.

📈 SOL Scores Posted in SIS ParentVUE

Families can find Standards of Learning (SOL) reports for spring testing in the SIS ParentVUE Documents section on or before the last day of school. Log in to your ParentVUE account to access the following:

  • For all students, the official SOL Score Report with overall and reporting category performance for all spring tests.
  • For grade 3-8 students, the SOL Growth Parent Report shows performance over time for state reading and math tests completed this school year.

🩹Medication Pick Up

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school June 12th, 2024 at 1 pm.  Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick up the medication on the last day of school and deliver the medication and completed forms to the summer learning site  on the first day of the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).

Attendance

As we look forward to the next school year, please use the 2024-2025 school calendar to plan for appointments and vacations next year. We need our students in school each day to ensure student academic progress. Thank you for your ongoing support!
