Happy Weekend Wolverines!

On Tuesday, June 11, at 2 pm we will have our graduation for the amazing Wolverine Class of 2024 at EagleBank Arena.  We will be dismissing at 10:30 am that day for everyone to make it to venue.

Senior Nairi Masih is the newly named recipient of the 2024 Laura Ashley Piper Scholarship given out by the FCPS School Board. Laura Ashley Piper served as student representative to the Fairfax County School Board from 1986 to 1987. She graduated from Robinson Secondary School and the Air Force Academy and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force. She was killed in action over northern Iraq in April 1994. To honor her strong commitment to student participation and to recognize her high standards of achievement and involvement, and her willingness to continually accept responsibility throughout her lifetime, the School Board established the annual $1,000 Laura Ashley Piper Scholarship. In 2007, Apple Federal Credit Union Education Foundation began its endowment of the scholarship, providing $1,000 annually.  Each year, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) high schools may nominate one senior student who exemplifies the “attributes of personal excellence and commitment to student government” of Piper for the AWARD.  Nairi will be recognized publicly at the School Board meeting on June 27 at 7 pm.  Nairi will be attending Cornell in the fall.

Student

June 10 will be an 11:30 am dismissal and a required Exam Days for underclassman students.  Please remember to encourage students to come to school over the final days for culminating activities.

Our last day of school, Wednesday June 12 will be a 10:10 am dismissal.

Last Day of School- On the last day of school, we are making a change to the bell schedule. This change is necessary due to an increase in unfortunate student behaviors in the halls and bathrooms over the few weeks. Administration feels it's necessary to ensure the last day is more structured than the original proposal that included multiple transitions during the morning.

Upon arriving on June 12, all students report to the main gym instead of going through all periods.  Please be advised a few things about our last day:

  • Students will not be able to get passes to see a faculty member and leave the gym. Faculty members will be rotating through the gym in the morning and students can check in with them at that time as needed.
  • Counselors will be in the gym from 8:30-9:00am for questions or summer school follow up.
  • Only breakfast will be served and can be picked up in the café upon arrival.  There is no grab and go lunch on the last day of school.

Obligations - Students, please make sure you are turning in books, laptops and such.  Remember that your school laptop and charger belong to West Potomac High School.

  • A lost charger costs $23
  • A lost laptop is $444
  • Items must be paid via my school bucks com

To help the collection process run more smoothly, the device should be clean, charger cords tightly wrapped, and stickers or personal dongles removed.

Collection is during school hours in the Tech Office (Rm 311). The last day to return is June 11th.

Will Test-Optional or Test-Required be the norm?

Many students still provide test scores with their college applications. Test scores are used for admissions, scholarships, and class placement. Take a mock test to see if you’re in the scholarship range or just a prep class away from that range. Test optional means YOU CHOOSE whether or not to send your scores. A good test score can only strengthen your application.
